Obviously this isn’t the team RE will go with. Jackson & Hwang will start. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Santi keep his spot ahead of Agba.

I like the idea of playing Rodrigo off Tolu. I’m not convinced Rodri is a right back/wing back - but in the same breath, I’d play him there ahead of Jackson - but we have Pedro back now so might as well give him a go to see if he can cut the mustard.

Arias has looked a lot better from a central position so keeps his shirt IMO. I think we look better with only one of Gomes/Andre on the pitch at the same time.

I dunno about Arias. He was bloody awful at Everton - we looked far better once he went off - and is a proper foul machine (not in a hard man way, in a constantly tripping people up for no reason way).

These have one of the best midfields in the league so no issue for me in playing two DMs in this game.

I dunno about Arias. He was bloody awful at Everton - we looked far better once he went off - and is a proper foul machine (not in a hard man way, in a constantly tripping people up for no reason way).

These have one of the best midfields in the league so no issue for me in playing two DMs in this game.

A number of them were under par v Everton. I read that RE “sensed in the warm up we were flat”. I just think putting Andre and Gomes in from the start hands Newcastle the incentive from the get go.

Yeah it was all a bit flat first half, both Arias and Mane were ineffective, Edwards changed the shape (and took Arias off obviously) which improved things. Apart from that 45 minutes, Arias has been decent for a few games.

Everton work extremely hard and as a result Arias had a lot less time and space compared to the MU and WH games. Newcastle certainly work hard at St James’s but they don’t have the same intensity away so hopefully Arias will look better than against Everton. Gomes and André can work and given Newcastle’s strong midfield I’d start with them even though Gomes doesn’t look quite as good when playing further forwards.
