Newcastle 1 - 2 Wolves: The Verdict.

Interesting stat on Twitter that Matt Doherty has been involved in six PL goals this season: only defender in the PL with more is Marcos Alonso (8)
Yeah but..... He was shit a few years ago.

What does that say?

I refuse to click on the mail as I don't do fascist papers.
Clattenburg agreed with Mike Dean that the elbow wasn't a foul and that Yedlin's was a red card.

Whereas Halsey said it wasn't a red and that the Boly challenge was a definite penalty. If the refs can't agree it doesn't bode well for VAR.

Wingbacks are slightly more involved than defenders though aren't they. Not exactly a like for like (but decent record all the same).

When Jota crossed the halfway line in the build-up to Doherty's winner there were 4 Geordies in their own half, and none of them deeper than the centre circle. Got exactly what their play deserved, defending like that in the 94th minute.

It was quite funny how they escorted Jota towards the goal like a presidential cavalcade, but even better was the bloke that gave up following Doc 40 yards out before he scored !!

But even funnier was that thing in the crowd the camera focused on looking like a depressed corpse :)

I was crippled before. I now have no legs. My limbs are somewhere else.
Mate. The mental when that went in was incredible. I dragged Darlo's brother 3 rows down by his neck.

Good to bump into you last night Jase.

I had to replay Rafa's post match interview when I woke up this morning.

It's hard to top a last minute winner, but when it riles that classless oaf, it makes it even better.

I'd have love to have seen his reaction if the sending off was the other way round, if Bennett had brought down Atsu for example.

I can't stand Benitez.

Classless twat (Rafa, not you :icon_lol:). Watching that makes me glad we have Nuno.

Newcastle fans will feel aggrieved that Mike Dean sent off DeAndre Yedlin and did not punish Wolves' Willy Boly for an elbow but he got both big calls right.

Yedlin could not recover after mis-hitting a pass and pulled down Diogo Jota as he raced towards the penalty area.

In these situations, referees will have a picture in their mind of the moment that the foul takes place.

Dean will have seen that Jamaal Lascelles would not have made it back in time to cover so Yedlin had denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Late in the second half, Boly caught Ayoze Perez in the face with his arm as he jumped for a header.

It was not a deliberate attempt to elbow the striker. Boly was jumping naturally for the ball and Dean - who had a clear view of the incident - was right not to punish the defender.

It was Hapless Halsey who reffed the game at Molineux referred to in an earlier post where he gave them everything. Halsey was repeatedly so bad in our matches I genuinely think he was biased against us. How anyone can think Jota was not denied a clear goal scoring opportunity is hard to believe. No doubt Halsey thinks Traore should have been penalised for head butting Lascelles’ handin the first half. The bloke is a complete fraud.

I've seen a few comments stating MGW wasn't up to the "standards he has set so far". That's extremely harsh. When he initially came on, Nuno played him alongside Neves - which again isn't his best position (I didn't want to say anything at the time as I'd already received a few heated comments for questioning Nuno). He was too deep to really have much of an impact and we were playing football in front of Newcastle at that point, which was easy to defend against. MGW was trying to force a few Hollywood passes and kept giving the ball away, but I don't think that was his fault. As soon as Moutinho came on, it allowed MGW to push further forward and we were so much better as a unit going forward.

I desperately hope Nuno goes with Jota-MGW-Raul v Bournemouth. They've got a full week to recover now.

One point on Costa. What has happened to him? We were all saying how much he'd beefed up during pre-season, but he gets knocked off the ball so incredibly easily. Atsu for Newcastle was everything yesterday that Costa wasn't. He got the ball in to feet, held it up (considering he's quite lightweight himself), turned and ran at our defence and won multiple free kicks. Ok, Costa got himself an assist - but the rest of his performance does not make up for that. Not quite sure what's going on there.

I haven't watched MOTD2 yet, but what were they saying about the elbow?

Nuno made a good point on his post match interview - it wasn't just those decisions that meant Newcastle lost.

And he's right - this forum would have exploded if we'd have conceded a goal like Jota's. Awful defending. And for all the flapping on the match day thread, I don't recall Rui having to do much in the 2nd half.

A couple of crosses, that's it. Their only real chances were the shot off the bar and the goal that followed immediately after.

On to the flapping. There were a few around me at the game last night doing exactly that. It's embarrassing. How can people watch Nuno's Wolves for a season and a half, claim to love the style of play, as we all have at some point, and then moan when we don't press high or lump it into the box. Every single possession Newcastle had was the same last night, side to side looking for a forward pass, not finding one and then the long ball forward. All played out to the sound of Wolves fans shouting 'GERRIN TO EM', 'FUCK SAKE COSTAAA', 'RUN YOU LAZY FUCK'. It's what they're being asked to do by the management, how can you not see that?

Benitez likes to hide behind things to cover up his sides severe deficiencies. He’s lost 7 out of 9 at home this season but can hide behind the ownership issue.
Yesterday the goals they conceded was inept defending, he’s not mentioned the fact the reason Yedlin was sent off was because he completely fucked up to start with.
As langers says what did Rui have to do second half?
Rafa is hiding behind Dean after yesterday’s game and there fans are on his side.

TBH mate I get the feeling that some people are totally unable to enjoy watching us play! I can't say I was getting that worked up yesterday despite us being below par.

I don't have the feeling that we MUST pick up points in these kind of fixtures because I don't think we'll be in any danger of going down, and we're not good or consistent enough right now to challenge for the European places. Which I'm 100% cool with, I really don't feel any kind of stress or pressure watching us - we're a good side, we've played well in a lot of games, sometimes we can let ourselves down and drop points that we shouldn't, but we've also gained points we didn't expect as well.

It's an odd feeling but I kind of like it.

I thought Newcastle were poor yesterday. I thought our performance was only 4 or 5 out of 10 but if were a Newcastle fan I'd be seriously worried. I can't see any way they will finish ahead of say, Cardiff and if they don't get new signings in Jan they could easily go down. Jota's goal was just awful defending - about Conference level inept

Special shout out to Vinagre. He's been very impressive since he came in. We need to make a point of getting him the ball quicker than we have been, he's such a threat. There were so many times last night when Doherty recycled the ball inside and I was just dying for Saïss or Bennett to have a look up and pick out Vinagre on the other side.
