Newcastle 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Too many poor individual performances but mostly it was the tactics that killed us tonight. We've been much more pro-active in recent games but tonight we went back to the turgid, slow, negative shit. That's on Bruno surely? If he's told the players to play in a different way and they aren't capable of it, then he needs to make changes much earlier. It seems to be 2 steps forward, 1 step back with him. I think you're gunna get these occasional brain farts from Sa but he's got to learn he can't go charging out like that, not sure he will.
Thought Silva did as much as he could (woeful headed attempt apart) absolutely no support and just asked to chase lost causes.

Not at all, not been out, watched it at home stone cold sober. Here are the games he's cost us just in the last few weeks:
Arsenal
West Ham
Leeds
Newcastle.

He can play Mr Angry on the touchline, he can wave his arms around, he picks the team, he sets them up, he (doesn't) make the changes. He's not very good.
Leeds game is slightly harsh to say the manager lost us that game. We were 2-0 up and cruising before the ref sends off Raul for nothing. I know we should have handled it better afterwards and made quicker subs, but the collapse falls on the players as much as the manager.

I can't believe we've given Leipzig £14M for Hwang based off of one good game against a Steve Bruce team and some Korean idiot screaming his name into a microphone.

Our scouting dept have valued our front 3 today at around £80M. I'd probably pay £10M for Fábio and absolutely fuck all for the other 2.

That's definitely on the manager. Everybody in the ground could see we needed a change but he didn't and it went to shit and he couldn't stop it.

He also left a concussed Saiss on which was unforgivable.

I don't think he's a wank manager but unless plan A works for him he's fucked. He's a good championship/ lower PL manager at the mo. Hopefully that improves.

Sorry if it's been discussed already (only saw from kick off) but were Pod and Donck late changes ?

Wank.

Hwank with one of the all time cowards performances tonight. Trincao has got some stick for it but fuck me, Hwank was just as culpable. Didnt want the ball on numerous occasions and at one point he hid between three Newcastle players then moaned they didn't pass to him. Get the fuck out of here. That we're going to spend actual money on that cunt in the summer beggars belief.

We didn't even have the horseshoe of doom tonight. As frustrating as that is we had less than nothing for enormous periods of the game. That was further compounded by Bruno's Bambi impression on the sidelines, 76 and 83 minutes to get two players off the pitch it was blindingly obvious needed hooking after about 5. That's the most concerning thing for me, his complete inability to react from the touchline whether it's a sub, or tweak to the system etc for all his gesticulating he does fuck all.

I agree with YW we have ridden our luck this season and have a bit of a false position. Occasionally our punching above our weight is exposed horrendously, Palace, Brentford, Leeds and tonight.

Minus at least Neves and Moutinho next season and persisting with shite like Hwank and Trincao is going to see us revert to an average.

Need to give TT's post some thought, don't know if I'm there yet but from very early doors I found myself disinterested in anything Bruno had/has to say win lose or draw and pay the bloke zero attention. I feel no affinity or hostility toward the guy. Only Lambert exceeds him for complete apathy in under a year.

There were 10 minutes between the sending off and the first goal another 3 before the second. He did nothing, he didn't even put one of his wide forwards down the middle. The red card was a shocker, he cost us the game though

You missed Palace off that list. I was going to post something very similar.
Can’t be a coincidence can it that we produce really shite performances just at the moment we need to get it right

Probably only going to get a maximum of 58 points this season all the sides above us will breeze past that with ease.
Can see a similar performance against Burnley in 2 weeks occurring a side highly motivated to get points against a side in beach mode.
Performances like this do nothing to encourage your best players to stay and potential signings to join.
Really gets me angry how many opportunities with given up since new year. Norwich (h) cup, Arsenal (a), Leeds (h) and tonight.

You are correct 5 in 6 weeks

He’s still pretty inexperienced, hopefully he will learn.

Also when the only tools your given are Hwang and Trincao then you’re going to struggle. Particularly with limited availability

No, no, i meant me. :) (and yet i'm still here)

He's asked for Hwank & Trincão though. Never misses an opportunity to talk about how Hwank is 'perfect' for us

Piss poor, first time I've been genuinely pissed off at Bruno. I think Tony's post is way, way over the top however. Embarrassingly so.
Agreed. Bruno has by and large done a great job. I'm sure there were things we don't know that influenced the selection, but even so it does call into question our mentality

Sa is also regressing to the mean. I still think last weeks penalty was bollocks, but today's was like candy from a baby. How many is that he's given this season 4/5? Not saved any either. I like a keeper on the front foot, today was just silly though

I can only guess but I'd say the owners must be happy with the way Bruno is doing. He's probably cheaper than Nuno, seems willing to accept more financial constraint and has us in a good league position. Next season I can't see it continuing though.

That’s the thing, they weren’t the only tools. He had Neto, chem and Chiquinho on the bench.
I was referring more to external singings, and I’m not even sure he had a say. We (the club) wanted Hwang under Nuno.

But if Campbell and Chiquinho are better than them pair, what on Earth are we doing investing £40m and £8m In wages on them.
