New - The things that really annoy you

I had the curling on, online, put it on pause and when I went back to it they’d swapped coverage to a skiing event so didn’t get to see the last 4 ends.

Final day of this slog.

4 weeks of little work to do and a couple of days of fuck all to do and its back to work tomorrow. Lets see if I prefer actual work* v arsing around on here

*once I get the induction bollocks out of the way
You’ll be cooking with magnets in no time

Going to own this one and no sympathy sought but wondered about thoughts of the likelihood of points and a fine…

Very busy crossroads quite close to here that has red light cameras, plus a speed camera. It’s also where the Ulez zone starts so has those cameras too, plus the full safety cctv so effective has the works.

Approaching last night when quiet, saw the turn to amber, could’ve stopped but put foot down and ‘just’ nipped through on Amber, but light on the other side of the wide junction turned red long before I got to it.

A quick Google suggests no fine/points as did effectively go through on amber, although, it’s potentially an offence as you should be stopping if you can and I did speed up, other cameras providing supporting evidence if required. I know it’s wrong and I was rushing, but there was a very little traffic etc your honour.

So there’s an offence there with evidence if required, but didn’t know if these things are only triggered if the initial red light camera activates or if there’s actually some little fella monitoring the other cameras thinking ‘Ha, got you ya little bastard?’

From what I understand they only activate as goes to red. So you should be fine on the red light standpoint but speed maybe a separate issue.

I got done couple of months back at the trench lock roundabout at the end of the EP at Telford. I came round the roundabout and the lights turned to green and there was a load of stationary traffic on the inside lane and the outside was empty so I just cruised past. Turns out I was doing 35mph, but I didn’t know that camera was for speeding, thought it was just for red lights. So if you put your foot down then it might get you for speeding.

It's an automatic camera only triggered when on red. If it was amber when you crossed the white line you'll be fine.

If it was red you'll get a letter in the next couple of weeks asking who was driving. If you've haven't done one in the last three years you'll be offered a driver improvement course. You'll have to pay for it, but there'll be no points.

If it was amber but you were driving at excess speed to beat it, then as above you'll get a letter asking who was driving, and again, if you haven't done one in the last three years you'll be offered a course.

If you don't get any letters in the next three weeks you should be good (assuming the vehicle is registered to you at your current address).

Speeding up (within the limit) to beat a red light would only really be an issue as part of a careless/inconsiderate driving offence, but automatic cameras wouldn't detect that.

Amber! You Brits are so weird ;)

A few years back in Cardiff I did the foot down to beat the red light....got done for doing 35 in the 30 area. Bastards*

*not really my own fault but still....bastards.

I'm not generally a conspiracy theorist but that Trench Luck camera does seem to be set so it maximises income. I know half a dozen people been caught by it, none of themparticularly aggressive drivers.
Its really tricky to keep to 30 till you get to the 50 zone. In fact the outside lane positivly encourages to go faster as you need to get past people before the road narrows to a single carriageway just after the lights.

Well that is exactly what I did. Wasn’t even in a rush, just going to the tip. I wasn’t driving aggressively, but I have an EV, so a little tap on the accelerator would have had me from say 25 to 35 pretty easily. As you say just getting round before it merges. Fortunately was just a speed awareness course.

I got flashed by a camera van a week ago, not heard anything yet so crossing my fingers.
It was on the A41, the dual carriageway bit between Whitchurch and Newport.
I wasnt riding crazily or anything, just drifting past sliw moving traffic, saw the van, shut off immediately, loiking down sawmy speedo just coming down to 70 so was probably doing high 70s the time. Luckily my speedo reads over by 10% so that helps. Also motorcycles dont have a front number plate so unless the van also has a rearward facing camera I'll be ok.

Do you have any recourse if you do get flagged?

I could only argue the camera wasn’t calibrated or something like that. But they send you the docs proving it was, so basically, no.

The awareness courses for minor infringements are actually a fair thing tbh, not sure how that idea crept in.

I suppose the only reason it works here is because it's all a racket. I had to get a lawyer, but he basically just told the court "weird his cruise control was miscalibrated so it's all fine" and that was that. Paid him the same cost as the ticket, more or less, but didn't get anything on my record or points on my license. Benefited me but not for good reasons.

The cruise control definitely wasn't miscalibrated, or certainly not enough to save me from doing 79mph in a 65mph zone.

Hooligan speed freak😄

Basically hoping that you’ll learn something and therefore less likely to do it again. Also, as I found a my course, none of the others actually knew what the speed limits were or or general rules so could easily be speeding by mistake, or more dangerously driving way too slow

Yeah I did one about 5 years ago and was shocked how little people knew about the highway code.

It's a huge elevation drop tbf! ~2000ft in ~7 miles. I should have been more aware; State Troopers were speed trapping that stretch constantly.
