New Manager Search *BACK ON*

I get your Devil's Advocate stuff, but giving Shi and Fosun the benefit of the doubt after a pretty long list of wild goose chases and inaction/poor decisions over the past few years seems perverse.

This isn't an isolated incident. He hasn't got a Scooby.

Meanwhile, most other clubs have a process and recruit within a few days
Be interested to see what the general turn around is, a few days seems keen. It's far from uncommon for clubs to have at least a game or two with caretakers in charge when they sack someone mid season. Bournemouth still haven't appointed anyone have they?

All depends who the alternative is doesn't it?

Plenty of people out there now raging at Martins as the backup to Lopetegui, would they have been any happier the other way round with Martins in the door for West Ham and Chelsea but now someone potentially better walking free?

There's always a chance this can happen, you're not going to make offers to 2 or 3 people and have them all lined up ready to go in case the first choice says no. They'd set their sights on a particular individual, like pretty much every high profile managerial appointment, and it's not happened so now they look elsewhere.

I get people are pissed off generally with the season so far, and most of the one previous, but this isn't some Wolves specific problem that only Shi could manage to magic up. It's the way life goes sometimes.
I just object to us chucking a season in the bin in order to retain someone who was ludicrously out of his depth and couldn't manage the squad.

Keeping Lage because "there's no-one available" was always a complete fool's errand.

Yes because the last 4 years have been so fecking shit.

FA cup semi
Europa Quarter final
Two 7th place finishes
14th (the Lowest)
And a 10th

Now this year has been a shit fest they took a manager who should not have got the gig, there first choice is not coming for none footballing reasons now we need to act quickly we are still an attractive proposición

We are still attractive proposición for any manager.

Remember most managers are absolute confidence nuts every single mánager will believe they can get us out this shite.
Obviously we’re attractive compared to West Brom but anyone who thinks we are as attractive as we would have been in May is deluded and quite simply wrong.

Indeed. Say to anyone in May "we're going to spend £100m+ on new players and we won't sell Neves". You'd get some very high calibre candidates.

Not so much when we're in the relegation zone and have scored 3 goals in 9 games.

It's not there being no-one around though necessarily is it? There were already rumblings of things with Sevilla, they obviously have a connection to Lopetegui previously so assume they would've known and probably why they'd set their sights on him again.

If he was always the man they wanted to go after again then Lage becomes irrelevant, whether it was him getting a few games more or giving the youth coach dream team a bit more time as caretakers it wouldn't have accelerated the process, wouldn't have changed what's happening now and probably wouldn't have fostered any more points.

The only thing that would've changed how it's play out is Lopetegui, if they didn't want him then maybe they sack Lage and go with someone else sooner or if he didn't have other stuff going on maybe he's announced Wolves manager this week.

It’s not that ‘there’s no one available’ anyway.

There should always be plenty of options for a manger for a club of our size. We just choose to exclude most of them from our search.
Nearly every managerial appointment in top leagues is a head hunt though, it doesn't change the process just the pool of candidates. Exactly the same situation could've occurred completely exclusive to any Mendes links, Wolves picked their man and now it's fell through.

This is true obviously.

But Martins is a pretty solid coach from what I can see. I don't care that morons on twitter might foam at the mouth about him. So even within the 'Mendes stable' there are still better options than Lage.

Some of the comments on SM and the Mix about Martins are just weird. He looks a very good option, would have been a really good appointment instead of Lage. Not sure he's the best option now maybe.

I'd go for Svensson, Everybody has a price (5 years on, in his book, "When Wolves came for me it was a brilliant opportunity, I really couldn't turn it down...") Then double it.
Find a DOF and pay him well and start acting like a big club and stop operating like we're on a tight budget.
Anyone watching us fuck about is going to be really impressed by how we're going about this, how we're acting this role out in this half hearted pantomime.

Je

3 goals in 9 games isn't a blip either. They we are going we are likely to score 12 goals this season. To let it get to this point is a damning indictment of Jeff's stewardship since he disbanded the senior management and took on total responsibility himself. He is well on track to personally lose Fosun £200m by May next year.

Basically what TT said is how I feel, but I’ll add a few bits.
Because I don't buy that every mishap that happens is automatically Jeff Shi's fault. He's made a lot of mistakes and I'm no big fan of his but not everything that goes against Wolves is automatically down to Jeff Shi being crap.
Where do you draw the line? When do you move from “benefit of the doubt” to “he’s incompetent”. Every single passing moment tells you he is.
This new JL news just seems down to bad timing, and obviously very bad circumstances for his family. Not going to blame Shi for that - shit luck IMO, circumstances beyond his (or JL's) control. Without this, it probably would have been a straightforward, sensible appointment. But it's happened, he's not coming, it's shit luck but the right call to put family first. I wish him well.
But it hasn’t happened and it’s not new. Thomas Tuchel doesn’t want to join us because we’re shit. Him turning us down isn’t bad luck. He was never an option, and shouldn’t have taken us this long to find this out.
Remains to be seen what happens next and who we'll turn to. I understand and appreciate any lack of faith in Shi to get the appointment right but that doesn't mean he's responsible for not appointing Lopetegui.
As above, It is. He went for an unattainable target and then wasted time doing so.
FWIW I don't understand why so many people seem so against Pedro Martins - think he'd be a perfectly acceptable appointment and a huge improvement on Lage.
I’m fine with Martins tbh. But we could have employed him 10 days ago.

Personally I never expected Lopetegui to be installed. The 'Bookies Favourite' rarely happens, I believe it's fixed to skew the odds.
Quite possibly/probably by some of the parties involved.
Still want and think we might get Amarim. 🤞

And more importantly, he isn't a Mendes client.

I'll be absolutely stunned if we don't appoint a Mendes client, so i'm really surprised anyone is entertaining it?
And of those Martins is best qualified by some distance. Looking on Twitter you’d think he was coming from the Sunday leagues. He has more experience right now than Lage may ever attain.

It's crazy.

"Would you go out with Billie Piper?"

"Don't think so mate, she was with Chris Evans and Laurence Fox before, that rules her out"
