New Manager Search *BACK ON*

Clearly Lopetegui needed time to speak to his father and decide what he needed to do, whether he needed to be there full time or not.

I don't blame Shi for that. Anyone in the same position would take time to go home and speak to their loved one and find out what sort of care they needed first hand.

I don't blame Shi for JL rejecting us, I blame him for allowing it to get to this situation.

We had a good two week window to conduct a managerial search, instead we gave Lage another game that he didn't deserve. We lost that game, lost the next with youth team coaches in charge and have three games in a week coming up which I'm not convinced we will have a new manager for.

it can only be described as incompetence.

Unless Lopetegui is a nurse, what exactly is he going to do? I get he wants to spend time with him, but his dad is 90. I'd understand it more and give Shi the benefit of the doubt if it was Lopetegui's kid who was ill.

Should have steered well clear, even without the father situation the Sevilla job had obviously screwed with his head and frazzled him. Most of us had reservations about him walking into Molineux without a break.

The only reason Shi went for him is because Mendes told him to and he has no independent footballing thought process, let's be clear.

I'm all in on Svensson now. Riskier appointment but got Mainz clear of relegation then finished 8th the season after.

Can't have Martins. Looks like some bloke you'd find in a Wetherspoons at 11am.

Julen isn't sat by his dad's bedside reading out my posts to him.

I hope his dad lives to 120 and Julen goes on to manage Barcelona. There.

The priority should have been getting our rudderless team a manager who actually wants the job, not hanging around a frazzled and emotional man at clearly the wrong time (again...), waiting for an inevitable No.

If Lopetegui was always the target pending his sacking then getting rid of Lage earlier would've made no difference. Just means more games for the caretaker.

We've got no idea when or how Lopetegui decided on not coming to Wolves. If he always had designs on looking after his dad when rumours of his sacking started then he should never have been on the radar but if it's a decision only reached post sacking then what could anyone have done about it?

Imagine if Wolves had sacked Lage at the international break, gone straight in for someone like Martins, then a few weeks later Lopetegui is out on his arse and ended up with Villa or Leicester going for him. People would've been apoplectic.

But we should have got rid of Lage because he was shit and the players hated him. Just wasted time there and threw a game away.

But they most likely wouldn't have got him for the same reason we aren't - so instead we would have had an actual manager in instead of what has actually happened now which is going to probably cost us 5 games.

Doesn't change where you are now though does it? Doesn't alter anything with the replacement at all.

If Wolves had gone early then they wouldn't have even explored Lopetegui would they, so in a hypothetical world he's available for someone else, you don't know how it'll go until you pursue it.

That's the gamble whichever way you go, act early and maybe someone better comes along. Wolves hung on a bit with a particular individual in mind and now he's said no so we've ended up still having this gap. Unless Lopetegui had said weeks ago, when first thinking he was likely to get the sack, that he was planning some time out then Wolves couldn't have avoided that.

But we should never have got to this point is what people are saying. JL isn't the only credible option out there. And even if we had brought someone we wanted in 3 weeks ago, and JL had been sacked and then hired by Villa/Leicester in this hypothetical that is extremely unlikely - sure people would have looked at it as a potential missed opportunity but it's still better than where we are right now...

I get your Devil's Advocate stuff, but giving Shi and Fosun the benefit of the doubt after a pretty long list of wild goose chases and inaction/poor decisions over the past few years seems perverse.

This isn't an isolated incident. He hasn't got a Scooby.

Meanwhile, most other clubs have a process and recruit within a few days

All depends who the alternative is doesn't it?

Plenty of people out there now raging at Martins as the backup to Lopetegui, would they have been any happier the other way round with Martins in the door for West Ham and Chelsea but now someone potentially better walking free?

There's always a chance this can happen, you're not going to make offers to 2 or 3 people and have them all lined up ready to go in case the first choice says no. They'd set their sights on a particular individual, like pretty much every high profile managerial appointment, and it's not happened so now they look elsewhere.

I get people are pissed off generally with the season so far, and most of the one previous, but this isn't some Wolves specific problem that only Shi could manage to magic up. It's the way life goes sometimes.
