Good player but his Little Wing sounds a bit stiff (most covers do compared to Jimi). He needs to go back and learn when to come in for the vocals too!!

I think this is time for a favourite solos / guitar tracks slot
I will offer
Randy Rhoads - Mr Crowley (Ozzy Osbourne)
Eddie Van Halen / Brian May - Star Fleet (Star Fleet Project) - buy this EP. Let me Out is a ridiculously good blues work out as well
KK Downing / Glenn Tipton - Painkiller (Judas Priest)
Andreas Kisser - Mass Hypnosis (Sepultura)
Kirk Hammett - Am I Evil (Metallica covering Diamond Head)
Chuck Schuldiner / James Murphy - Spiritual Healing (Death)
Anything by Dragonforce - they can't write songs but fucking hell!
I can't remember the names of the guitarists but there is an instrumental by a band called Agent Steel (That Day in Guyana) which is completely amazing
Forgot two - Marty Friedmann / Dave Mustaine - Tornado of Souls (Megadeth)
Alex Skolnick - Practice What you Preach (Testament)
ha ha, yeah, he comes in late with the vocals. You find it stiff? Each to their own. Theres quite a bit of SRV in that version as well as Hendrix. His Jeff Beck track is awesome.
Guitar stuff?
I'm listening to John Lee Hooker and I have an old cassette tape I made up (both tracks extended), made into a digital track so it's 18 minutes long.
2 tracks both with deadly guitar riffs, 'Boogie on Russian Hill' and 'Boogie Woman'.
I think Robert Cray is in there somewhere.
I've been listening to it for about 4 hours so far....
Love it.
Featuring a guitarist that no one has ever heard of ! Thats what makes me smile when people say guitarist X is the greatest guitarist int he world, when there is so many people out there who are better
I've heard of him! Widely regarded as one of the best bass players ever. There's a picture of him in the book I learnt to play the guitar from when I was 15. I almost mentioned him earlier in the thread but I'm not that familiar with his stuff.
Jaco Pastorius is up there witthe all time greats.
You should check out Pino Paladino, he is fantastic. In teh eighties he was THE bass player to the stars.
He appeard on more editions of The Tube than any other musician, and along with Mick Kahn turned a whole generation on to the sound of a fretless bass
The Marshall JVM - 1960 Cab combo is still the same
Still have my ESP - I will NEVER sell it
Schecter Hellraiser 7 String in Dark Cherry trans with a Floyd on it. I cannot recommend Schecter enough - built like a tank and the EMGs on it (81-7 and 85 - 7 properly bark)
Gibson Les Paul in White with Gold hardware because I really think I am Randy Rhoads (I am not - he was much shorter than me, apart from that we are close ability-wise, honest)
Moen effects switcher unit
Korg Floor Mount Tuner
Eventide Space reverb unit
Eventide Time Factor, Pitch Factor, Mod Factor
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Boss Metal Zone
EHX Sitar emulator
EHX Mr Freeze
EHX KFK EQ
Jerry Cantrell Wah
PigNose Expression / Volume Pedal
Digitech Compressor
When we were away in Devon last week, we stayed in an awesome lodge which had loads of guitars on the walls - including a couple of bass guitars. So I thought I'd have a go - it was great fun albeit very, very basic! I play guitar, but I'm self taught, not particularly well - I'm way better at chords than I am doing any kind of lead but it does mean I know the bass notes for each chord.
I'm really interested in learning to play bass but before I decide to buy one, I thought I'd ask how easy it is if you know how to play standard guitar? Is it a case of learning scales etc?
You will definitely need to learn scales and understand where all your octaves are etc, but crucially you will need great rhythm, as good bassists tend to play in-between the notes, usually following the drummers bass drum beat, or playing counter rhythms to flesh out the bars where a guitarist may be only playing chords.
