Nah, Jamie was a Brummie...Has he got any family still in Ukraine?
Because Matt Doherty.Don't see why none Wolves careers should be used to judge how good a player is for us. Emlyn Hughes captained England at Liverpool (as he did while with us) and won everything bar the league cup, it doesn't have an impact on how he's viewed at Wolves.
Richards was very good for a period of time for us, but that period only really lasted from March 95 to Jan 96. He was only decent after that and phoned in his last 12 months
Low bar definitely.I liked Richards, he was definitely a change from the defenders we had previously who looked as comfortable on the ball as Neil Collins did when the ball wasn't within heading range.
He did like to party though.
Doc also had ages of being shite for us before his purple patch. I hope he still has nightmares about LuaLua the way I do.Because Matt Doherty.
Bar his debut (!) Neil Emblen tended to look good on the ball when we played him at centre half, but we spent the bulk of his time(s) here sticking him in central midfield because we couldn't be bothered buying a proper player there.Low bar definitely.
I don't think Deano or Joleon looked 'that' brilliant on the ball. Boly either for that matter. All have a bit of an awkward gait and are never comfortable on the wrong foot. Sakho esque if you like.
Whereas Kilman, Coady and Saiss are all relatively confident in both possession as well as carrying the ball forward and receiving under pressure - as the last two especially should be given their previous positions.
Ludo and Jody were much more old fashioned muck and bullets CH's for me, with Veno incredibly one footed but able to play across a number of positions. Biased I know, but definitely one of our most underrated players of the last 30 years.
Bar his play off nightmares [two if I recall], I thought Jamie Smith was an excellent full back and probably should have achieved more in the game than he did.
First debut, Reading at home. Was it is debut or 'second' debut when he returned from Palace? Treading on the ball and falling over as it was played back to him straight from the kick off. Up there with Mark Williams' first touch or what should have been his first touch.
Seem to recall Emblen having a few games at CF as well.
When you are comparing them with what I had seen previously growing up when I was watching Wolves, I'd seen Hindmarch, Stancliffe, Madden, Westley, Streete, Bellamy, Shirtliffe etc. Richards was a god amongst those, ungainly or not.Low bar definitely.

Nowt wrong with Peter Shirtliff. Excellent defender. Snapping his Achilles when he was already old did him but he gave us a very good year before that. When you are comparing them with what I had seen previously growing up when I was watching Wolves, I'd seen Hindmarch, Stancliffe, Madden, Westley, Streete, Bellamy, Shirtliffe etc. Richards was a god amongst those, ungainly or not.
Jamie Smith was the only player I’ve ever seen who repeatedly used a terrible touch to beat an opponent. He’d knock the ball too far forwards committing his opponent into a tackle that Smith would then win more often than not allowing him to advance down the wing with his opponent floundering on the ground. Used to do it a couple of times a game!Didn't dislike Jamie Smith but we did well getting Dougie Freedman and Kevin Muscat (before he went all 'hard man/snotter') in exchange
Oh, I've seen and winced at all of those as well. Standing on the South Bank [with chicken pox and covered in calamine with a hat and scarf across my face] and watching Stancliffe bundle that Barnsley cross into his own net was a particular low point. When you are comparing them with what I had seen previously growing up when I was watching Wolves, I'd seen Hindmarch, Stancliffe, Madden, Westley, Streete, Bellamy, Shirtliffe etc. Richards was a god amongst those, ungainly or not.
