Man City (H) 30/9: Build-Up & Match Thread

Just picked a random example here:

The Wolves boss believes his side have more of a point to prove after their recent poor form than Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd, who is returning to Molineux for the first time since leaving for the Welsh capital, and he is hoping for a positive reaction from his side following their short break in Spain.

McCarthy said: “Does anyone honestly believe there are any more players on that pitch on Sunday who have more of a point to prove?

“One win in nine games and as poor as we were at Burnley, and I am supposed to be worried about someone else’s players? You are having a laugh.

“They should be coming here scared witless of eleven of ours with a point to prove.

“That is what should be happening.

“Players come and play against their old sides and I am not scared or worried about anybody.

“If you are looking for people with a point to prove then it comes from within.”

Don't recall everyone going nuts at Mick for saying that and calling him a clueless cunt. There's plenty to pick at with Gary O'Neil, there's no need to invent stuff.

Does this mean Pep will be pinning GO's comments on the wall tomorrow

FFS Gary.

FFS Gary.
He'll also be saying "watch out for Pedro Neto, he's got real threat from out wide" and "if Sasa Kalajdzic comes on he's a serious aerial presence in the box". He doesn't earn the big bucks by accident.

Like Matheus Nunes gives a single fuck what any of us think.
Depends what you mean by us. An Internet message board or Gary O'Neil absolutely not, but in the ground the atmosphere can make a significant difference. Danny Mills was mentioned earlier, he absolutely went to pieces under the abuse he received, think he may have even been subbed off, but I may be misremembering that. Someone posted a video of Coady talking to Ben Foster a few weeks ago and he said in that the abuse he received against us under Lage got in his head and impacted on how he played.

On the other end of the spectrum I've seen Lee Hughes for Notts County and Michael McIndoe for Bristol City both get dogs abuse and revel in it, although Molineux wasn't full on either occasion.

Not that tomorrow will make a difference either way given their other 10 players

Mills played the 90 I'm fairly sure

McIndoe was alright the first time he came back (drew 1-1) and awful the other time (we won 2-0 and Gary Johnson compounded it by taking him off in injury time when the game was obviously done and he wasn't injured, so an added individual round of derision for no reason)

Foster brought it all upon himself as he's a wanker

O'Neil's presser:

On Jose Sa's long-term contract extension is "fantastic" for the club: "He's made some big saves for us already this season, he's really good around the place and in the dressing room, and a good guy. So I'm really pleased we managed to get that one done."

Reflecting on his first six games in charge: "From my point of view, there's loads of work to do. I understand my responsibility to get the best out of this group, which I will. Six games, some things have gone against us and we've had some good spells."

O'Neil expects Manchester City to be "a big task" but he isn't looking at the game as a free hit: "I don't see them as free hits. It's a really good opportunity to see where we're at, give a good account of ourselves, try and be the best version of ourselves, and see where that gets you on the day."

On stopping City who haven't dropped a single point this season: "Teams have tried all different sorts of ways. Last season, we went man for man against them in the home game, and had some relative success in that. But they're capable of scoring from those moments as well."

On Matheus Nunes " what reception the Portugal midfielder will get from the supporters, after leaving the club this summer.

On Fabio Silva “He is still finding his way and O'Neil feels there shouldn't be as much expectation of players around the 21-year-old's age as they haven't played too much in the Premier League."

Good God I hope we're not going to go man to man against them tomorrow.

No expectation for a player who cost £35 million to look even vaguely like someone worth a 10th of that either.

Less than 24 hours to a game against one of the best teams to ever play in the PL and there are seats available everywhere:

Can't see anything other than a hammering. Only question I have is "how many goals will City score from a ball being cut back to the area by the penalty spot to the edge of the box?" We just don't defend that area very well and I can see City scoring at least three in that area.

And, there is not a chance in hell we are scoring unless City put it in their own net. Some games you dread. This is one. Now, under Nuno, I looked forward to it. We always had a chance...until the ref's intervened (Boly red for example.)

I can balance that one out because Kilman got away with a handball right on half time. He leant into the ball and it hit his arm, should have been given

My Raul point was as you point out, his own fault. My response was not always the ref intervening

I reckon we'd have got a draw at home in 2020/21 with fans in the ground too. Outplayed first half but got back into it second half and created loads. A proper atmosphere and I reckon we'd have equalised. Then just hit on the break at the end for 3-1 when we threw everyone forwards.
