Looking at history with a modern lens

So the man urinating next to the memorial for Keith Palmerhas been sent down for 2 weeks.

This bit of the report though sums up the majority who were in London at the weekend "Prosecutor Michael Mallon said Banks, a Tottenham Hotspur fan, was in central London to "protect statues", but admitted he did not know which statues."
Maybe because protecting statues was a load of bollocks used to get together with some mates, drink some lager and have a rumble with the old bill and anyone else who happened to be near them.

Did Arklow say something else? The stuff he posted is all over social media and offensive as it was, he isn’t alone in thinking it was true.

His posts had quite clear and obvious racist connotations

I wasn’t really sure where to post this, but it’s probably the best guardian article ive ever read - Sacha baron Cohen talking about the dangers of social media and allowing lies to reach so many. Completely revolutionised my views of him.
Plus some other stuff about his acting and movies which is interesting too.

I was about to post this myself. I wasn't a fan. I'd only ever seen him as Ali G, which I thought attacked easy targets and wasn't sympathetic to his own character. Watched the latest Borat film with my daughter a few weeks ago and thought it was excellent - extremely funny, well targeted and dangerous for want of a better word.

I like that he’s stepping out of the comedy character which is clearly really uncomfortable for him, to make points which aren’t even necessarily political, but really need making, and doing it brilliantly.

he brings together the arguments about free speech, the Holocaust, and how hitler would have used social media in a way that should make sense regardless of which side of the political spectrum you are on, and that’s really bloody difficult.

Borat 2 is a kinder film. In the first one he makes people look stupid who were actually nice to him and the comedy doesn't land as a result.
