Live Match Discussion 2025/26

Covid meant no second season in Europe. No way Spurs sneaked above us with Kane injured
You never really know, but with the injuries that year, the ridiculous recruitment and no crowds there anyway, it probably was for the best

If Lampard didn’t bottle the FA cup final against a crap Arsenal team we would have been in Europe too.

Yeah it could have been a disaster being in Europe that season, but also maybe Jota stays and we attract some better players.

We were mostly very poor to watch but having a two week break and no pre season was always going to make things hard. Then when we finally looked like we were getting going Raul gets a life threatening injury. I still can’t believe how many people (including on here, I remember having plenty of arguments with Mark and PK for example) couldn’t give Nuno, an actual club legend, a pass for that

Arsenal were drawn against Man City in semi’s too so they were huge outsiders to go on and win the cup.

Sliding doors - if Arteta doesn't win that trophy we probably would have had to put up with quite a few years less of his whinging and god-awful football.

It wasn't just Chelsea bottling it, as I recall Arsenal had a pretty dodgy pen and there was a questionable red card. Lots of maybes about that Covid period, for us it had a huge effect and there is a clutch of other clubs (Villa, Sheffield United, Tottenham) who it impacted significantly, some to their detriment and some in their favour.

All that being said, we should've just qualified anyway. Matt Doherty jumping around in his own box with his arms waving around above his head and his eyes closed cost us 2 points at Burnley and if we defend a simple corner away at Sheffield United in the last minute we have another 1.

Was talking to my West Brom-supporting mate this morning and he was bemoaning the quality of their keepers. He wasn’t wrong!

Maybe there is hope for next season. Derby have been dreadful yet are currently sitting in the last PO place.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of fretting about the double drop but I cannot overstate how bad you have to be to actually go down to League One. Blues didn't even manage it under Lee Clark or Steve Cotterill.

That Iling-Junior playing for West Brom is the poster boy for bent deals to circumvent PSR. Absolutely dreadful, like National League North level.

The fact 75 year old Danny Batth is playing in a team in the PO places says a lot!

Managing to miss from 3 yards out to equalise right at the end :D
