Surely this thing of inflating figures for attendance is dangerous and probably against all safety laws? What if there is an emergency where the ground needs evacuating?

27,130 reported attendance which was probably double what was actually there.

I’d say it barely broke 20k again clubs publish the tickets sold not how many are in the ground. Arsenal always posted 60k when they had clear empty seats.

Back in the day clubs would say there were less attending than there was, to avoid tax (presumably). Wolves certainly did it in before all seater stadia came in.

They'll know how many people are really in the ground if something like that happened from the turnstile info. That's just tickets sold, which I think everyone does, Wolves certainly do.

Yeah I get that they know the actual numbers but wondered if there was scope for confusion for the emergency services.

Ground safety certs for stands are based on evacuation times when they are full, so I don't think it is an issue. You wouldn't do a headcount outside like a factory fire drill as everyone would disperse.
