Live Match Discussion 2024/25

I watched West Ham against Newcastle last Monday and they were excellent. Perhaps that was their equivalent of us at Flum. If we lose tonight surely one of Lop or GO will be gone by Tuesday morning.

I don’t watch much non-Wolves Premier League TBH, but I saw the West Ham game last night and the score line honestly is a freak. West Ham far superior, though that’s a relative observation. Although you’ve clearly ‘got to make it count Chappers’, on another day they’re running away with that game. Suspect that other day will be Monday.

Not sure if Mel or Wilf are ballbag so I’ll have to pass up the opportunity of gaining a fiver. 🙁

I just had a quick read on KUMB and they are mixed on Lop and last night, doesn't seem a given that he will be sacked. Smashing us next week will help him too.

BM at West Ham in the next 48 hours to decide Lop's future, erring towards sacking apparently

So have decided to sack him but want a replacement straight in.

Sky reporting it's 60/40 in favour of getting shut of him.

Early favourites are Sergio Conceicao (though there is talk of him going to Nantes), Edin Terzic and Graham Potter. No rumours of a cheeky move for their old boy and 'next big thing' Gary O'Neil

No one has a clue how to deal with it it’s actually funny. Load of zonal men nowhere near the ball and a load of men running in with free headers
Yeah they’ve completely cracked it for the time being

Don't think I've seen anyone even try to do anything specific to stop them yet - everyone just stands there and watches it happen.

Bit old man vibes here (from me) but I'm continually surprised how few players take real time responsibility for things that happen in moments in game and dont do things to try and mitigate them.

Be it

* protect the bloody goalkeeper if a player is fucking with him on a corner then get an outfield player to allow the keeper some freedom obviously this is a Wolves issue, but Spurs have been the same too.

* defenders not stepping up and catching an attacker offside as the ball is about to be played - sounds simplistic, but Dawson (and Kilman) are particularly bad for this. It baffles me more as we have VAR now and it's even more difficult to fuck it up.

* if Gabriel is continually finding himself free on corners, fuck off the zonal marking and man mark him!

* and a really obvious one (particularly for Wolves) if the keeper and/or defenders are struggling to play the ball out and are being pressed well. Make the decision to go longer in the moment, don't keep trying to play it fucking out!

*Back in my day* players/leaders would make on field tactical decisions to mitigate problems and it wouldn't get them in trouble with their managers, it was an expectation. Managers knew that things happened in real time and they brought in players to help with that.

Now, football is so incredibly micro managed that players aren't expected to lean away from the managers directions, even if they can clearly see that aspects of them aren't working at all.

There's a great clip somewhere with Henry talking about this when he went to Barca - went off piste, scored a goal and ended up in Pep's bad books.

If any of our backroom staff are still in place when we next play them then they'll likely score from every corner they get.

That would be an improvement on last night when we scored every corner Everton had on their behalf.
