Live Match Discussion 2024/25

Swear Johnson has scored that goal about 8 times for Spurs now, never anything better. Fair play.

City have lost a lot of goals with Mahrez, post-Barca Gundogan and Alvarez. De Bruyne and Walker are nowhere near the players they were and with Foden out of form and Rodri injured it’s perhaps not surprising they’re struggling.

Prepare for a read lol...

We have no rb. Walker's kaput and Rico is far from ready to claim that spot as his own in that City side. The whole Rico midfield thing is not working either, he's not the answer for Rodri. He's too small and frankly not yet good/experienced enough for that role.

Foden's taken a massive confidence knock from being the euros scapegoat, it's clear to see. "Sick the first few weeks" my arse. Needs to snap out of it.

Kdb has been on a downward trajectory since the beginning of last season, fitness for 90 and injury wise. Even when he plays, he's not the same player - misplacing easy passes etc, you could see it last year and I mentioned the same back then. People heavily underestimate the importance of his defensive workrate, he's a huge hole in that aspect of our play now.

Grealish was only ever good for us for the treble season.

Oscar Bobb looked amazing and like this was gonna be his breakthrough season.

People seriously underestimate how important Alvarez was for us.

Doku and Savino are both raw. The talent is there clearly but the football intelligence isn't there yet, especially for Doku.

Gundogan came back from Barcelona a different man than he left. Another one clearly on the decline. And with kdb not the same defensive asset, in the few games he does manage, that's still a liability.

So we have a half decent defence (bar rb) but it gets exposed too easily now, as Kovacic is a lot more offensive/head down carrying the ball and just doesn't have the anticipation or cool headed control of Rodri.

I don't worry too much about Haaland, every striker goes through bad runs. He scored in his last PL game and while he missed chances today, I don't think any were disasters.

This is our squad.

Besides Bernardo and Haaland, who are teams afraid of? Most teams have skillfull wingers these days and we have two PL unproven in Doku and Savinho.

Basically, what we are gonna see of City this season is not gonna be down to missing Rodri.

We needed to strengthen the midfield over the summer and I'm talking about finding a kdb replacement. We were unlucky with Oscar Bobb because I think we would have rw covered it he was fit but I think we needed a left winger too and of course a rb.

In a nutshell I don't see us as title contenders this season. This isn't reactionary, I said the same earlier in the season. Look at our squad and look at others.

This isn't a pity party, just answering you.

Surely £60m Nunes was the KdB replacement? 😂😂

I have no way of proving this stat as I have nicked it from a post on Rawk as I am a plagiaristic cunt at the best of times, but it really does seem to indicate that Walker has gone off a cliff.

His highest recorded speed in his career appears to be 36.5kph. Which is rapid. Very rapid.

This season, his highest recorded speed is 28.9kph.

That is stark.

You only have to see that clip of him chasing Adama to know he’s done. No chance he’s losing a foot race to anyone let alone be breezed past. This was after he’d come on a sub and Adama had played a full game who himself probably isn’t as quick as he was 5 years ago.

Rodri and Walker allowed City to push forward and still stop the opposition getting chances on the break. That’s no longer the case and it’s beginning to look like dominoes falling as it exposes weaknesses elsewhere.

No great fan of Liverpool but if, as I expect, they win the league it would be quite amusing given Klopp only managed it once. It would also mean Arteta doesn’t win it, which can only be good!

Gvardiol was League One Doc level yesterday too. Embarrassing 1v1 and positonally.

KdB looks like he's possibly done, his work rate at his peak was so often overlooked because he was an absolutely outrageous offensive threat.

I think Rico Lewis is a special talent, but he's never going to be a player that is going to shine off the ball or in transition, particularly if he's sitting on his own.

Might have a few quid on Chelsea to win the league. Last bet I placed was on us in 2017.

KDB is one of my favourites to watch. His masterclass at Molineux was ridiculous. What a player. But it looks like he is close to done.

Quite the rebuild to come at City, and with all those charges I don't think they can twat half a billion at it. Which is ace.

I will happily take Arsenal or Liverpool winning a league ahead of City now. I despise their financial doping and wouldn't want them to win whack a mole at a church fete.

If Liverpool win today, which seems likely, that would mean a 9 point gap over Chelsea. Obviously not insurmountable but I’d expect Liverpool to win given they’ve got so many players that can score regularly. Aside from Salah they’ve got Jota, Gakpo, Diaz and Nunez who will all chip in with goals when they need them.

Liverpool have scored one more goal than Wolverhampton Wanderers.

EDIT - that sounds trite, but I would argue that the reason Liverpool will win the league is actually the fact that their defence is ridiculously good, which is like the eighties was.

Fair point but I think as the pressure increases having players who can score helps convert draws into wins when playing teams that go out hoping for a point.

Lallana booked for a bad challenge that looked better than the kick Semedo took in the 1st half yesterday that didn't warrant a free kick!
