He's just nowhere near as it stands. His natural limitations stick out horribly.

Wolves have four centre halves of dubious or unproven quality and I wouldn't pick him over any of them.

I enjoyed that. Not sure how many passes for the third goal but it was at least from Ramsdale’s long ball to Trippier on the left and another minute of possession.

Very much a game similar to a sky super 6 v a newly promoted side, bar about 20 minutes in the second half England controlled things with ease and we’re far more superior in final 3rd.

Think you need to look a bit closer to home on this one Gareth. His whole thing when he came in was not picking players on past reputations or who they played for. There's 3 players not in that squad on merit, 2 got game time today

Two things though really.

1) The stick Southgate gets relative to what he's actually done is unreal. People are genuinely ridiculous
2) I'm not going to criticise him for sticking up for his player. Like everyone I don't think he should be picking him but while he does, he has to defend him in public. The other side of the coin is that wanker Lage slagging everyone off and accepting no blame, I know which I prefer

i think when you lay out your philosophy in the way he did, you open yourself up to criticism. By picking Maguire he's exposing him to ridicule, I agree with whoever said it's not fair on him and I respect Maguire for turning up, but he shouldn't be there and there's only one man that's on.

As for the broader Southgate discussion, I'm repeating myself but I think he's the reason we go so far in tournaments and also the reason we don't win them.

To be fair Southgate couldn’t take the penalties in the final of the Euros.

He is far too conservative in huge games with a lead though. The form for that is consistent.
