Actually shouldn't run offside there, it's poor play by Watkins. No need to overrun the line.

Automation is a no-brainer as we know it works and it's far better (and quicker) to show to the fans once it's done its thing.
C'mon... ever played in attack? That was a very fine margin for Watkins.

1. I don't trust the offside/onside technology. - Neither do I, but that looked offside without lines, i trust my own eyes.
2. The Neto at Anfield decision still rankles. - Fair
3. Fans come to games to see goals. In the stadium they are left clueless while fans on TV see the decision. - I think fans to come see their team win, and if it's offside and given or vice versa it rankles, as per your reason 2.
4. Attackers should be given more leeway by changing the rule to clear daylight. - Can't agree, measuring "daylight" has never been a thing and would give the attacker a HUGE advantage, it would effect the game massively and you'd end up with teams defending much deeper which makes the game less entertaining, the reason both of these teams defend so high up is partly because of VAR.
5. It's Tottenham. I think I hate them more than the Vile. - That's weird.

Yep, plenty

Doesn't need to leave any margin, it's tight but no need to make it tight, he wasn't escaping any marker.

Have you?
That was my main position for years until switching to centre back.
Watkins was offside by less than a quarter of a boot.
Love to see you judge it when running at some kind of speed. You ain't looking at the defenders foot. You are looking at the ball waiting for it to arrive.

I get your point about hanging back half a pace but if he does that, his view of the ball has more chance of being obstructed.

I agree with your point, it's just that "I played blah blah and you didn't" is a shitty argument.

I don't want Steve Bull anywhere close to our coaching staff, for example.

There's no "daylight" for Son there, but he was miles offside, do you honestly think that should be "on" Squeak?

Now that is offside. Lovely attacking move, though. So many good footballers in this Spurs side, even if I think a lot of them flatter to deceive.

Good. Let's have more entertainment than goals like that being ruled out for being a quarter of a foot in front of the opponent. Quite happy for atackers to have a huge advantage. And no, I don't think teams would defend much deeper. If that became the norm, then take another look at it. Another goal ruled out now... lovely finish... was a long way off on that though!
5. It's Tottenham. I think I hate them more than the Vile. - That's weird. UEFA Cup, FA Cup Semi, having to listen to Spurs fans at work out ways Tony Morley on Peter Daniel and generally Villa fans being twatish schoolkids.

He reminds me of an "enforcer" in hockey. Not really there to do anything but be a big tough prick.

It's a good one to examine. Under the new rule of "clear daylight" he would be onside and yes, I'd have no problem with that being given as a goal. His left leg was level and he was not miles offside as you state. He still had a lot to do to score a goal.

I do get your point about team defending deeper but I'd be inclined to give it a couple of seasons and see if that really happened and if it affected the game in an adverse way. For me, if they defend deeper, then the ball is in an attacking area more often.

Typical Villa, Spurs should be out of sight at half time
