Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

Leeds will feel they’ve still got a chance and keep bombing forward.

I think Leeds are top of xG but also top of xGA
Edit. Before the last round of games

I wish people wouldn't make this out to be somehow romantic or charming. No, if you're conceding more than Sheffield United (who've now gone nearly half a full season without winning a game) or Albion (possibly the least equipped team to survive in the Premier League in a decade or more) then it's just shit tactics and worse management.

Not a fan of James but that was not a dive (for once)

He's scored now.

And now a penalty.

Some more awful defending.

Could have been 10+ here. Still could be.

There's nothing to admire here from the men in white, it's absolute rubbish.

They'll surely burn out in the New Year too
Don't think so tbf, they are in similar boat to us where they are playing once a week (advantage they have is an actual pre-season. They'll finish lower mid table, which is a pretty decent achievement.

They've just had an absolute mare today, not sure why everyone is so quick to jump on that (and vice versa when they win with the media fawning over them).

There's a pattern though, that's a 6 (so far), three 4s and two 3s against them in 14 games. I don't think this is anything to applaud, it's the equivalent of sticking £100k on red at roulette and winning. Aye, well done, enjoy it, but if you keep doing that then you'll be asking your mate for a lift home in all likelihood.

There are enough weak teams to keep them out of trouble this year in all likelihood but what happens when Bamford reverts to type and so they aren't scoring enough goals either?

Maybe they can turn to £27m Rodrigo, with his two goals and turning 30 in March.

They are a mid table team performance wise, sometimes they win sometimes they lose. Bielsa teams are generally pretty thrilling to watch but with obvious flaws. I'd rather them in the league than say, Palace, personally!

I think Bielsa will be pretty keen to tighten up anyway, he just has a different approach to other coaches to find solutions!

I don't begrudge Palace anything, Hodgson gets the maximum out of a limited set of players + Zaha (who is a dickhead but undoubtedly talented). Leeds could be a lot better if they bothered to set up properly, but they don't and it's hubris on a grand scale. Would serve them right if they did get sucked in.

There's a reason why he's won virtually nothing in 30 years. The Championship (big wow) is right near the top of his list of honours.

Don't mind Bielsa or Leeds but the praise they get is bizarre. They're a poor-ish premier league side, nothing more.

'Set up properly' is entirely subjective though. Bielsa will obviously feel the players didn't perform how he wanted, loads of individual errors and he probably got the midfield shape wrong. He isn't doing it to impress people, probably the opposite.

On your last point, absolutely. He's an idealist, he believes in how he wants to play and he is flawed (and would admit himself). His coaching has inspired many though, hence why those 'disciples' have gone onto be successful having refine those ideas.

Not sure that Leeds team could really be that much better with the current squad, very few stand out performers in my eyes. Think they're punching above their weight but obviously their style leaves them wide open to being out punched by the better sides.

I'm with Louie, rather watch someone make a fist of it than stick 10 men behind the ball and hope to sneak something.

It's the Bielsa love in isn't it? No one was praising Southampton for being open and adventurous when they let Spurs walk through them and score 5 earlier in the season. Or Liverpool for being a brilliant open and attacking team when Villa stuck 7 past them. Both were rightly slaughtered for defending absolutely appallingly in those games.

I don't begrudge Palace at all (different ways to skin a cat, and as a coach it interests me anyway) but I know who I'd prefer to watch

As a coach would you go 2-0 down after 3 minutes (principally as you haven't asked anyone to bother tracking runs from midfield) and then change absolutely nothing? I would hope not :)

They've had three shots on target today, United's xG was nearly 4 (and that seems stingy to me given they had a penalty in there, the quality of some of the missed chances seemed higher), it was shambolic in my eyes. Did I find it entertaining to watch? Well yes, but I'm not a Leeds fan. If a Wolves team played like that I'd be furious.
