Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

It's fine margins for him; we all know he isn't a perfect player. Doc scores and his deficiencies may be overlooked in that game (the whole team were poor), he doesn't and it doesn't look as wise a purchase as I'm sure a lot of Spurs fans thought.

I'm waiting to see his replacement for us before I crow too much though!

Doherty by no means the worse spurs player tho that’s shiny endorsement, Hojberg, Alli and especially my mate Winks were just awful. As for Harry Kane spent most the game moaning and sulking with everyone.

Doc is the sort of player who looks (and is, to be fair) v good in a formation that suits him, and thats what he had here. But take him out of that and put him in an unfamiliar role and it falls apart.

None of this is in any way insightful, which is why its incredible Spurs didnt realise.

He hasn't actually played regularly as a RB since 2014! Lost his place to Iorfa in December of that year, didn't really get it back with any regularity for the rest of Ken's reign, then started playing LB (badly) from December 2015 which is where nearly all his football was until Nuno came in.

The thinking behind this formation is as bonkers as when Dave Jones played 4-4-2 with no left winger with us for a while. There's no way you can have the required cover in behind Doherty, but he's still pushed miles up the pitch as if he's a RWB, and we know he loses the ball way too easily way too often, AND doesn't have the natural engine to get back over a huge distance if he's caught upfield and the opposition break. The tactics aren't his fault, in fact it actually isn't his fault that he's a rubbish RB, much as it's not my fault that I can't play guitar like Johnny Marr. But you wouldn't have me performing Smiths tracks in front of a massive paying audience.

Spurs have been a club that have finished in the top six in each of the last 10 seasons, I think. He won't get a huge amount of patience there, and Mourinho has form for hanging players out to dry if things go south.

Jose suggesting that Doherty was "struggling to play the way you want him to play". Perhaps if he played him in the right system it would help.

Certainly not. Though you can imagine most of their fans only know him from his Fantasy Football scores and the odd MOTD feature on us

Hojberg looks like a complete neanderthal, just got one of those faces

Lallana off injured, what were the odds?
Lamptey reminds me a lot of a young SWP

Brighton moving the ball round well and looking a decent outfit. Nothing up front though and gave away a poor goal so will just finish somewhere between 12th and 17th on this showing.

Some more text book keeping by Kepa

What the actual fuck Benfica?

JJ back, €80M spent and knocked out in the qualifiers by PAOK. Had to be Živković as well.
