I told a Spurs mate ages before the speculation that anyone signing him and playing him in a 4 was in for a shock. Hilarity when they signed him 2 weeks later.

The amount of people who have been conned by Doherty's goals record over the years is phenomeonal. Fans, pundits, managers, opposition players. Back when he was the most one-dimensional left-back in the league he was still beating opposition full-backs almost every time by cutting in on his right!

They would have you believe so. As White Wolf says though Doc has conned a lot of football fans/pundits/players etc in to believing he was good when in reality he was good in one specific role that suited us and him.

It's an odd thing, isn't it? When you think of all the players that Jez sold for decent fees that we thought were stealing a living but other clubs obviously thought would add value while at the same time we were handing out contract extensions to players who should have been at least a division or two below where we were at the time. Bizarre.
