Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

Says more about the lack of preseason, IMO. The fan thing definitely has an effect but I don't think it plays that big of a role in swings like that.

A result like that should be a shock and an excitement. I was genuinely not bothered and switched off to watch crappy TV, it’s just not real without fans.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but not sure fans in the seats would have changed the result a huge amount. Maybe 6-3 instead of 7-2.

Got home, had a look t the results. What the heck?!

We don't know either and we sat and watched the games.

Obviously once I'd calmed down from watching us have a fairly untroubled 1-0 win which was a disgrace and embarrassing.

Don't forget concerning!

Some epic stuff from Aidy, call me arrogant but how do you concede 3 goals against Andorra. He needed sacking 2 years ago after U21 championship debacle.

Literally got the job because Dan Ashworth is his best mate, and Ashworth isn't there any more.

How does someone who left Northampton bottom of League Two then got sacked (and has achieved something in one season ever, which was nearly 15 years ago now) get and retain that kind of position.

It shouldn’t happen a nor is healthy for development, his levels of total incompetence were shown up at the last U21 championships desperate for a win and you leave your most creative player on the bench. He’s not even a dinosaur he’s never been good at all 1 season with Watford and the rest was a disaster.

Boothroyd has always been a long ball moron wedded to the Charles Reep theory and just a Graham Taylor for the 21st Century.

It isn't the coaches that are the problem for England football it is the stuffed shirt wankers in charge.

/endofrant.

Bit harsh on Taylor whose football verged on the industrial but was of its time and was also broadly successful across a long period. He was also an incredibly nice man.

It's like comparing Oasis with Northern Uproar.

It's more Graham Taylor's style and what it was based on rather than the men themselves.

Taylor's worked as you said it was of the time. Boothroyd tried to do the same thing but 20 years too late.

The thing is that even if it was based on a template that was very direct, some of Taylor's teams were genuinely exciting. Although it didn't end well and the next season was terrible and he had to go, we were full of goals in 94/95. His first Villa team was very good too (don't remember his first spell at Watford, before my time).

None of Boothroyd's teams have ever been remotely interesting and only one of them was any good, for one season, in a pissweak division (we finished 7th and we were God awful under Hoddle, that's the level of it that year). Plus that style had pretty much died out when he resurrected it, then he swiftly got found out.

Taylor would have looked like Boothroyd had he played his style in the mid 2000's and the style would've died as quickly. I don't think any of Taylor's route one football was exciting but that's just a personal opinion. Undeniably a revolutionary though.

My point was more about the arseholes who keep giving this type of coach and style of play any sort of credence. Until they're binned England will never get close to winning anything.

Jimenez has missed a sitter for Mexico. Rui keeping Portugal in it so far and Moutinho doing far too much in chasing the Spain’s midfield around.

Oh yeah. When you think that Wilkinson, Pearce and Boothroyd have all managed the U21s this century...(and Platt, who wasn't a hoofball man but was absolutely crap)

taylors villa were a good team to be fair. They scored a fair few goals, and played attacking football. was subjected to a fair bit of it, as dad is a fan, as was granddad.

Traore on for Spain and a blistering run and cut back leads to another fine save from Rui.

My brother’s seething at Tim Krul for not doing his homework on Rauls penalty kicking technique.
