Live Match Discussion 2018/19

I think from next season any goal scored with the arm is disallowed. At the moment a goal scored via the hand/arm that is not seen as deliberate stands. The PL refs group got bollocked this season after Boly scored v Man City and it came out that the refs were told to disallow any goal scored via handball.

was the suggestion that they knew it was handball from Boly but let it go because it wasn't deliberate?

I only saw yesterday's goals this morning. if that hits a defender it's no pen so I guess an argument is there's no foul play at the other end. but personally I think a rule that no goal can be scored with any use of the arm, accidental or otherwise would be better. except Boly's of course!

No. After the goal the head of the refs group said if the ref or assistant had seen the handball or VAR was in play they would have disallowed it as they have been advised to do so even though it was clear it was accidental (goal wouldn't have stood regardless as Boly was offside when Doc flicked it on). So this went against what they are meant to do and they aren't allowed to make up their own rules.

Isn't it a question of silhouette - ie. it's only handball if your arms change your silhouette?

Llorente had his arms tucked in, and didn't really move them to intercept the ball- they rebounded off, onto his hip and in. Arguably the goal would have been scored even if his arms were nowhere near.

I know the plan in the future seems to be outlawing balls touching the arm at all, but I thought that wasn't currently the case? Right decision for me.

Yes, currently it is the right decision. The worrying thing is that the VAR officials were not able to see the angle where it clearly showed it hit the arm. Irrelevant to this game, but worrying that if the exact same thing were to happen next season, they would erroneously have given the goal.

Ramsey out for Arsenal, theyre obviously playing tonight, again on Sunday then us Wednesday

I'd fancy us to be fresher than them for that game

Blimey - Frankfurt beat Benfica on away goals. I really didn't see that coming.

Good solid win for Sheffield United there. Pretty much certainly condemns the shit to the playoffs. Good.

Some strike by that odious little shit Forestieri to pull Sheffield Wednesday level at Norwich.

Old #headsgone scoops the ball over the line with his hand to give Sheffield Wednesday the lead.

It was certainly bought, but Wednesday can hardly complain after the goal that gave them the lead. It's a brilliant free-kick from Vrancic but Dawson probably leaving a little too much to aim at.

Not having that. We blame the keeper when he’s beaten his side. From that close if he can get the Ball up and down then fair enough, nothing you can do.

He definitely instigated contact - swing his leg into the Wednesday guy to get the free kick

Haven’t watched it again so can’t say for sure. But looked one of them where he was looking for it but it would still have made contact even if he hadn’t. Rather than a Ryan Fraser where you find the contact where there otherwise wouldn’t have been any.

I think he's too far across, if Westwood is in goal he saves it as it's not right in the corner. Although I am probably being harsh as it's brilliantly executed by Vrancic.

The only way the keeper gets across is by guessing. Then he gets beaten on “his side” and he gets dogs abuse.
