Live Match Discussion 2018/19

Napoli were already a CL team weren't they? Mazzarri and Benitez both had them more or less where Sarri had them.

It wasn't so much an expectation that will happen, more just pencilling a scenario where that nonsense from today becomes meaningless. I doubt anyone that every might be interested in buying him will have that incident playing on their minds.

Oh no, they won't. For players it blows over, Tevez went on to play for Juve after all that bollocks with Mancini at City, he even was more or less on gardening leave for 4-5 months in the middle of a title challenge.

It shouldn't, but it does.

It does if you are good enough. Kepa isn't.

Kepa or Rui?

I'd guess 90% of Wolves fans would still take Kepa.

I'd take Rui in every area other than kicking (not that Kepa is exactly a Spanish Ederson, he just doesn't often kick like a toddler).

Ched Evans and Lee Hughes found clubs after much worse than refusing a sub.
At a lower level though, which was my point earlier in the post. No top club will touch him again.

Plus, at the risk of trivialising Hughes and Evans, they didn't directly affect a manager in what they did - in this case no manager will trust him again.

How about Craig Bellamy? Good player but not a top player. Refused to play for Souness at Newcastle. Tried to batter a team mate with a golf club at Liverpool. And yet from there managed to get a move to City (post-takeover) and even a year back at Liverpool.

If clubs perceive that there's a bargain to be had, they'll have a look. Fucking hell, we even tried to sign Collymore in 2001, though you have to make allowances for it being Dave Jones.

I always liked Collymore, though I think that was just a throwback to a game when he destroyed us in the 90s.

Take the point on Bellamy, an utter tosser in every way. Still didn't publicly humiliate his manager on the pitch tho. Plus he was probably a better player than Kepa too..

Collymore was a serious talent in the mid 90s. He had everything. But by that point, he'd spent at least four years tatting around doing nothing other than being trouble. He'd literally retired. And yet we still had a go. Would have gone for it too if he'd been up for it.

They're not really playing below their respective abilities though are they? It's not like either would have seen out a full career of PL football if they hadn't committed the offences.

Kepa's level of performance will ultimately decide the future of his career, one spat with a manager will be consigned to the history bin by the end of the season.

Joey Barton went on to play for Marseille after his attack on multiple players while at QPR - he then went back to QPR and played for them for two seasons! Had that spell at Burnley too, followed by Rangers, followed by Burnley again even after the controversy there. That's without even mentioning his history prior.

To think disgracing yourself on the pitch is a career-ender is quite naive. Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer fought on the pitch with one another, then both got bought by West Ham.

Again though, my point was his affect was on the manager - literally the guy who decides whether you play and often get bought. Not on other players, most don't have a choice about whether they play with psychopaths.

Don't really think there have been many parallels that i can think of, hope that's not me being 'naive' though.

Sarri saying (publically) that he thought Kepa had cramp and should come off but the doctors said he was ok so it was right he stayed on but his conduct was wrong, a 'misunderstanding'.

I call bollocks

Shielding your players can sometimes be a good call by the manager but this isn't one of them. Kepa should have been thrown directly in front of the bus and had his name removed from the team sheet for the next game, at the very least.

Kepa and Sarri have both given the same story so I suppose it's possible (however unlikely given the state of Sarri's immediate reaction) that things really were lost in translation.

Not a chance. Sarri has come out with that nonsense, and Kepa has been told to toe the line if he ever wants to pull the shirt on again.

Kalinic refused to come on as sub for Croatia in the World Cup, got a move to Atletico the same summer. Essentially the same situation and didn't seem to put people off him, he's not especially good either.

Fairly different though in that you found out about Kalinic later, we all watched the Kepa situation happen live.

They both ignored their managers instructions, the speed of reporting is irrelevant and it's not like Atletico signed him before the story broke.
