LIVE! Match discussion 2014/15

While I do not think that Hodgson should go, there is no doubt that the football served up last night was a little disappointing. But it was only a friendly, the real business starts on Monday. I think we will see a different England then, not in personnel, but in attitude and application.

Also, I don't think Switzerland will "park the bus" as Norway did in the first half last night although when they attacked at the start of the second half they made England look very shaky. It will be a more open game from the kick off and that will, hopefully, allow England to play better.

My personal choices would be Martinez or Rodgers but at this stage in both their careers I don't think they would want the job at all.

I have no idea how much input Neville has on how England lay but it is slightly worrying that this is what England serve up when he is on the coaching staff.

Please, just hand me a gun!

Also, why "in the Premier League"? There are some great managers in The Championship. I rate Jackett as a miles better manager than all of those listed...........Maybe unfair on Monk but the rest just make me shudder
The problem is that if you employed someone who hadn't managed in the Premier League then he'd probably fail to gain the respect from the overpaid, prima donna's that he'd be managing.

Honestly, I don't think getting rid of the manager will do any good - we'll still be mediocre at best regardless.

Really? We have undoubtedly very good players and they prove that individually week in week out so the only variable left is the manager and style. Look at the difference when we operated with two up front (one of which wasn't Rooney) and a diamond midfield to fit those players. It was immeasurably different. The whole philosophy of Hodgson is a flawed, counter attacking, ponderous one and much like the England ODI team we are trying to play a game which no longer exists.

New blood will have to come in the form of an ex-international with a team of coaches that are new, with new ideas. No old stagers anywhere in the line-up and a philosophy that adheres toi the FA coaching manual (helpfully put up by YW). Only then can we even begin to change the turgid mess we constantly see. The Germans and Dutch have done it with success and that was a decade ago, God only knows why the FA are so conservative to change. Must be the blazers.

Roy sounding like he was auditioning for Eastenders, 'two shots on target!', i half expected him to follow up with, 'you're avin a larf!'

its a young team filled with some promising talent, but guys it's young and inexperienced.

Everyone fucking complains about picking the same old names, now they don't get picked we have a young team and still people moan like fuck instead of getting behind them and playing with no fear.

We still have a fair few players to come back from injury who are talented players. We will qualify comfortably, but you guys and the press have to let the players play, maybe if there was less pressure they could actually do the same for England as there clubs.

The big things for the youngsters is decision making, a few times last night in the final third we made the wrong decisions they will get it right.

over the coming few years we could have a team

Hart
Flannagan
Stone
Chambers
Shaw
Wilshire
Henderson
Sterling
Ox
Walcott
Sturrdige

with players like

Rooney
Rodrigeuz
Wellbeck
Lallana

etc not able to get in the team, be able to come on and change a game.
It's not all doom and gloom.

Wilshire and Henderson played well there was some lovely one touch stuff played in the first half the blocked shot fro Sturridge from Sterling's back heel.

Second half was dismal, but we still had enough to beat them, we will have enough to beat Switzerland, we will have enough to qualify for France, how we do there is dependent on how the youngsters develop.

That team had how many caps between them?
Rooney at 95
Hart at 43
WMilner at 48 (on the Bench)
the next best are mid 20's

give them a fucking break

Have you actually read any of this thread? I can't see much that lambasts the players (other than a wasteful, diving Sturridge), more the manager and his style which has taken a battering and deservedly so. I also can't see anybody moaning about picking the old guard? Have you just made this up in your head?

You talk about decision making in the final third and changing a game but I don't believe you know what either means.

Here we go again Arry. Much like your comments a few months ago about these players under your charge who asked you to invent injuries for them to miss England games - claims that disappeared when you were asked to name names - if you aren't going to do so here then fuck off. Which of those players who played last night "don't give a toss"? You should be able to name at least five based on your line there. Away you go.

Harry redknapp is a cunt. I may not have mentioned that before?

Onto the game, very meh. Thought Stones did well. Baines was ok, capable of better. Jones did ok. Seemed to me that Jones did well 1st half, Cahill 2nd.

The ox was wasted 1st half. Get it wide & let him cross isn't playing to his strengths.

Wilshere isn't living up to his hype, & Henderson was poor imo. as a pair, they do not work at all.

Sturridge wants too much time & for it all to be about him. He kept slowing/stopping the game. He's so much better when more instinctive.

Of the subs, I thought Delph did ok. I though he deserved his call up - he's been decent for Villa for a while now, so I thought fair enough for him to get a chance.

Well for those who watched the match yesterday, now you see why I don't like international breaks!

It's like watching paint dry.

I loved the Norway plan...(yes you had a plan)
Play that favoured line up when a "small" team plays England of 6-3-1 with everyone but the "1" dropping to defend in the first half but then totally confuse the simple England players by attacking at the start of the second half. Had you succeeded and scored a goal (very nearly did) you could then adopt the "park the bus" formation to snatch a memorable win :D

Gets old really fast when Azerbaijan is opponent tho. :)

My edit wasn't quick enough... SUCCEEDED not conceded...

35 clubs and 6 major agent firms scouting Norway u21 v Portugal u21.All of the top clubs are there, and they almost outnumber the supporters!

Barca,Madrid,Liverpool,Man Utd,Everton,Bayern,Juve +++.

Probably scouting Martin Ødegaard and the Portuguese players.

For those needing their football fix Luton vs Plymouth from League Two on telly in 10 mins.

Can someone explain how Steve McNulty has made it as a professional footballer? He gives me some hope.
