LIVE! Match discussion 2014/15

If I'm paying good money then I'd want to see something worth watching. If all you're bothered about is saying you support the team with success then why even bother watching the games?

Bit different to pick the team winning to support than supporting a team that then happens to win, isn't it?

Why is Baines not taking penalties?

Both are only interesting in winning.

Whether your support is based on that success or just coincidental surely there's got to be more to watching a game of football, or any sport, than that?

What's so great about spending a lot of money to be bored shitless for two hours if a group of strangers happens to win? You get to rub it in some people's faces? You piggy back on their success like it some how improves your life?

If the result is all that matters then there's no point watching the game at all.

That's an odd statement. If you don't want your team to win then there really is no point to sport.

It's competition. We get mad about losses for a reason.

I never said I don't want a team to win. I just don't think it's worth sacrificing all entertainment value in chase of success which, evetually, makes absolutely no difference to me either way.

I see football more like any other entertainment these days, music, film, etc. If you went to watch a band or a film and it was garbage but then won a shit load of awards you wouldn't change your opinion on how good it was would you? Even if you had a strong liking for a particular musician, actor, director or whatever that was involved.

Entertainment value and success stand completely apart in my view, and I certainly value the former far greater than the latter. I think that concept spans pretty much everything in life too really.

Fantastic freekick from Van Dijk to give Celtic the lead in their semi final against Inverness.

I like him, he's got the odd ricket in him but I think that could be ironed out when he's not in a league where you can coast through virtually every game without thinking about it. Good on the ball and decent pace.

Should be a penalty and a red card in Celtic's favour there, Griffiths coming in at the backpost to nod in a rebound and the defender swats it away with his arm but nothing is given.

Celtic then fall foul of the penalty/red card combo themselves, Gordon gone.

Do West Ham really not have any kids in their Academy who they could have played here in what is to them a nothing game ahead of Carlton Cole? What are you going to learn or gain from playing him, he's off in a few weeks anyway.

Winston Reid made the absolute most of that, but IF the referee reacts to what can only look like an elbow to even be a foul, and gives a yellow, which rules out accidental contact, then surely the card should have been red?

I am glad it wasn't because Reid simulated the whole thing but the referee doesn't appear to have applied the laws correctly. It should never have been a caution. The moment the referee sees it as a caution then surely he has to rule it is serious foul play. A case of a mistake that thankfully falls Silva's way.

Another booking for nothing there, this time in favour of Silva, just looked purely accidental to me that one.

As for Caley, super lucky as much as anything, should've been another goal plus a man down before half time.

West Ham have been a disgrace today, at least bloody look like you care.

Time for the semi final and an odd occasion where I'd quite like Villa to win.

The foul on Silva there, again the referee has seen an elbow, and deemed it a yellow card. It should have been red if a card was coming out. Referee has got it wrong twice, one thankfully in favour of a supposed transgressor who actually had done sod all, but the second time, it absolutely should have been a sending off.

Well, they are playing Liverpool. I can think of very few teams who would line up against Liverpool and not get my support.

Easily a fractured cheek bone or blow out fracture from that

You think that's intentional from Kouyatte?

Looks a very awkward motion to me, can't see it being anything more than just a clumsy flailing arm rather than anything malicious.
