Watching Sunderlololololololand v Villa on Sky.

Fucking hell!! I would back Hartlepool to beat this shower. I don't usually approve of boo's at half time but every Sunderland fan has a right to be fuming with that performance. No way can Poyet continue, he has lost it and the players are on the beach, ready to tweet #headsgone and move on.

Villa fans singing "we score when we want"

Sounded on the reports that 4-0 flattered Sunderland when they went in at HT, no shots on target, Villa missed a few easy chances to go along with the goals, etc.

I think Poyet tried to create a siege mentality with the "all the media are against us" stuff but it obviously has backfired. The thing is last season he was awful for a long period, when he switched to 3-5-2 and had Phil Bardsley as his key creative player they sank to the bottom of the league under his watch. Now he did brilliantly to turn it around and pull off a fantastic escape but they were deep in trouble in the first place because of him and his errors.

This season even when they have been through periods where they've looked largely clear of the real trouble they have been appalling to watch, so so dull. Every time they're on Super 6 against an average to poor team I stick them down for a 0-0. He says he believes in possession football but it's the sterile "knock it around to no effect near the halfway line" stuff, no purpose to anything they do.

He certainly has tried to do a Jose but has failed. We had more fight in us under Saunders at the end of his spell in charge.

Sunderland are looking in a right mess, and Burnley's win this evening has really put the pressure on them. They need results quickly.

Will give Sherwood some credit as well. Rolled up at Sunderland and went at them. None of this, sit back and maybe hope for something on the break. Played in way that actually makes Benteke look like a decent player again.

That's his only move to be fair, load the line up with attacking players and just flood forward whenever you get the chance. It's far from sophisticated but certainly gives them more of a chance than what they'd turned into under Lambert.

It actually makes them look a decent team. Obviously would get taken apart by the top 4 but if nothing else it puts the confidence that Lambert removed 2 years ago back in the team.

Nice to see him introducing the younger players to the team as well

City will definitely be looking over their shoulder to Arsenal who are in good form and catching them.

It'll work alright for Villa for where they are now. If he get the likes of Benteke and Agbonlahor on form then their strength is in attack so it's bound to look better than the insipid stuff produced under Lambert where those players barely got a touch.

I suppose it's a bit like Blackpool under Holloway, they had no right to do what they did but they played to the strengths of Adam, Campbell and a few others rather than trying do everything to protect the likes of Evatt. Seems strange really that most of Wolves big money signings in the PL were attacking players but they never really set the team up in a way that really played to their strengths, it was generally protecting the weaker players at the better players expense.

Poyet said: "I am responsible. I am one of the few in football nowadays, I am honest.

"When things go right I tell you I am responsible and when things go wrong I tell you I am responsible."

The result allowed Villa to climb above Sunderland, who are now 17th in the Premier League and only one point above the relegation places.

Poyet added: "I don't pick and choose. I hate people when they pick and choose and they change.

"They have got too many faces. I am not. I am responsible and as the one who is responsible you are the one who has to take it."

Hmmm.

18th December

"I am a head coach," Poyet told reporters.

"I am not going to be a head coach when it suits and a manager when it doesn't. That side is down to recruitment."

"I want more quality. Do I think I'll get it? I don't know," said Poyet.

"You know what is missing. It is clear what we need to do. That is down to recruitment.

"So, if you ever get the chance to speak to anyone on the recruitment side and ask them about it, you are lucky. If you don't, don't ask me."

21st October

‘I’m a head coach,’ he said. ‘I don’t make the squad, that’s not my job.

‘I’ve got four defenders, I play what I’ve got.

‘I’ll take responsibility at a set-piece – it was me, I pick the team and put it on the pitch.

‘The rest, I’m sorry, I’m not going to take.’

Seems like you "pick and choose" a fair bit in reality Gus.

What in the name of blue hell is that second goal all about? O'Shea leaves it inexplicably, Brown just plain doesn't bother going across, Pantilimon puts himself in the worst possible position, 2-0 off a little speculative ball down the line with one attacker up the pitch.

It was comedy defending. Why in the name of all hell is he playing Rodwell at left midfield? Bacuna had a field day down that side.

Some thoughts after seeing the match highlights:

Arsenal can score some brilliant goals against traffic cones.
QPR were pretty adventurous with that 0-4-2 formation.
Tony Pulis is some kind of warlock.
The Stadium of Light is pretty nice even if it empties before halftime.

Southampton look up for this one. Really good value so far.

Dean bottled it completely. Was going for the pocket then realised who it was. Piss weak refereeing again.

If it was a bookable offence (which it absolutely was) then the fact Matic was already on a yellow is irrelevant. Disappointing from Dean
