Wonder if van gaal will get rid of the shitty 3 at the back system now they've had some bad results (after getting a bit lucky in their winning streak)
I find it strange how he persists with it against teams who play one up front. At least when Steve Bruce does it its when the opposition are going to play two centre forwards. In this Man Utd set up the other two centre backs are left twiddling their thumbs.
When I first saw their team I thought it was Blind and Carrick in midfield with the other four in front but Blind was at centre back! He will stop doing it eventally I think anyway.
Having Rafael - who always has and always will break all the time - as their only proper right back in the first team squad is what hurts them and their ability to play four at the back. Although I'd rather bite the bullet and shoehorn one of Jones/Smalling/Valencia at right back, or play Vermijl who has looked good in the bits I have seen, than keep playing such a bullshit formation.
I also think it has to be Carrick or Blind, you can't play both. Daley is basically the same thing but left footed and younger. And for all that it's incredibly easy on the eye, neither of them can run. A team presses them like Saints did today and you have a big problem.
I guess part of it is wanting to play 2 up front still. Quite hard to get the rigt mix of Rooney, RvP, falcao, mata and di Maria in the forward line I suppose
I don't think he's a long term option there, he is amazingly cack at defending the back post when crosses come in from the other side. But better than playing 3-5-2.
Di Maria was amazing in midfield in Real's 4-3-3 last season, if you aren't going to play him there or that way then don't buy him.
Neymar puts Barca 1-0 up vs Atletico (after Suarez made a mess of a simple chance).
