Keir Starmer at it again..

Seems like Germany has been suffering more than us. 2 years of recession and could be heading for a third.

Peasants: We have found a disabled person! (A scrounger! a scrounger!)
Burn her burn her!

Peasant 1: We have found a disabled person, may we burn her?
(cheers)
Liz: How do you known she is disabled?
P2: She looks like one!
Liz: Bring her forward

(With apologies to Monty Python).

Yep. Brown's initial response was almost textbook but then instead or arguing his case he let the Tories frame the debate with their deficit bollocks. Austerity just made a bad situation 50 times worse.
The electorate let them frame that case by voting them in.

Labour had us out of recession by 2010.

The Tories then choked that off for ideological reasons.

I remember Brown and Darling talking about paying off the deficit in the TV debates. Not sure what motivated it as he knew it was economic illiteracy.

I honestly think we are fucked - to think labour are trying to reduce welfare out of meanness is nonsense, there are none (or very little) labour MPs who ever got into politics to reduce public spending. We cannnot tax our way out of this - spurious nonsense about taxing the wealthy doesn't hold (our two patriotic billionaires Jim & James show that whatever you do they will just move their money away).

So we can't tax our way out of it and we can't cut our way out of it so what do we do? I don't know the answer, no political parties do too.
