Keir Starmer at it again..

Thats is what they should be doing if necessary. Same here in Germany. Merz correctly reasons that the US cannot be relied upon but for years his party and the FDP have insisted on sticking with the debt brake that has seen much of Germanys infrastructure crumble.

The west as a whole has cut or elimated all or most forms of wealth tax (elimated late 90s in Germany) in the now debunked illusion that trickle down works. Through neoliberal eyes, re-introducing a wealth tax to pay for anything is abhorrent, so even more cuts for the poorest in society are the consequence.

It's a logical consequence that many feel foreign aid should be cut or like USAID, practically stopped. They feel like that should happen before cuts are made at home. It's also a logical consequence that people vote for parties that tell them the system is broken....because it IS broken, and the parties of the middle have no real will to fix it. The far-right are just there to make ot worse, but that's another discussion.

It's about time the ultra wealthy are asked to contribute their share to the defence of their countries.

The problem with Germany and indeed the UK hasn't been the far right, it has been the successive governments, who have left themselves open to what is happening now. The leaders have been stupid or naive, probably both. You have to have a strong military to defend your freedoms and never depend on other countries to protect you. It is true the far right are trying to take advantage of the situation, but is our own governments who are responsible for us being isolated from the rest of the world.
Unfortunately the far right will take advantage of the current situation and in the situation we are in a far right government is more probable in many European countries, to gain votes, than people who care about social issues.
It is like 40 years of progress is disappearing before our eyes.

I can't speak for Germany, but the far right rise in the UK has been facilitated by successive stupid and naive governments with closeted far right members (more open as time passed) alongside a pathetic opposition that hasn't made credible arguments for alternatives.

I agree with your post, but my point is it isn't the far right that had left us with weakened armies in Europe. Social ideals and progression for humanity needs to be protected, you can't rely on another country to do it for you. If you talk to any military expert, the UK and EU don't have the military capability to defend ourselves against a superpower. Other superpowers probably all 3 are now taking advantage of our weakness and the people that have been governing us are responsible for that, nobody else.

We have relied on NATO but with a backstop of the nuclear option. Russia pose a threat but the fact that three years down the road they’re bogged down in Ukraine suggests they’re not an imminent threat to Western Europe. We have time to get our house in order. The Baltic States however must be questioning what Trump would want from them for USA to abide by the NATO Treaty.

We haven't kept our military up to date and have nowhere enough troops or military equipment and the people we have elected have made choices and are directly responsible for that.

I don’t know but suspect our airforce is relatively strong by comparison with Russia who failed to gain control in Ukraine. Overall you’re correct in stating that we have neglected defence but I think Europe as a whole is not under immediate threat however some countries will be very nervous such as the Baltic states and Rumania.

I appreciate he’s not much liked on this forum but I think he’s handling this crisis extremely well.
The arseoles in America should watch and learn, it’ll never happen.

I think he is doing what he thinks is best for the UK, at this time. I admire him for that.

Starmer, is doing excellently in my opinion.

: “The central, most important thing, what drives me is, is what I’m saying and doing more likely to bring about a lasting peace, or not.

“If the answer is yes, I’ll do it. If the answer is no, I won’t do it. So I’ve seen people ramping up the rhetoric and taking to Twitter and saying what they would do. Good for them. I’m not that interested in that.

“Im interested in what are the practical steps, what are the bridge building that I can do? What are the relationships that I can mend and take forward to take us to lasting peace in Europe, and in the end, that’s my central concern. I’m not going to be diverted by the SNP or others trying to ramp up the rhetoric now.”

Dragging Europe into a war that cannot be won. Absolute cunt.
Blair on Steroids.
Thankfully my two are too old to be called up. Maybe we'll all go in a nuclear strike.
