Keir Starmer at it again..

Are the conservatives really hard right at the minute? Highest tax burden in peace time, massive infrastructure spending etc etc. They seem very interventionist at the moment.
The reasoning isn't interventionist. It's reactionary and populist.

You can't be serious given everything you've written on this forum in the last few days?

I find it amazing that socialists think they're in the centre.

It's truly bizarre.

Sorry but where have I said I'm a socialist? I've said I've got a theory that people who possess a socialist mindset may be more likely to succeed in a very specific profession, football management. Your projecting onto me something which you think I've said rather than what I actually said.

I also said I believed Frank Lampard was a great footballer because he possessed traits that made him less likely to be a socialist, but you seem to have missed that.

For all his faults - and I hate the man, so please don't read this as any defence, I think Johnson instinctively favours a big spending Govt . That's the reason they'll fuck him off in the end imo, that's the reason the press are turning on him now, although they'll never admit it.

They aren’t are they? That’s your viewpoint. Look. Start your party. Have your extreme socialist circle jerk and celebrate no seats until the sun goes out. Let the grown ups do the important stuff like getting Alex out of office.
They've pledged to 'balance the budget' so yes, they are.

I disagree personally. I don't think he wants to be a spender. I think he is a populist, and is attracted to vanity projects that invariably are a poor use of cash and usually run over budget. But his focus is him and his legacy, and how he is perceived.

There are 3 reasons why the tax burden is so high. Covid, Brexit and the fact there's nothing left to cut. It's not philosophical it's that there aren't alternative avenues. As for Johnson himself, he doesn't have any real belief system other than whatever makes his life easier and popular

Probably agree with that to be honest

I'm sure I heard on the radio education spending will be going back up to the same level it was in 2010, on a per hear basis?

If you only require minor tweaks to the status quo then you are.
Oh dear. I forgot anything that isn’t Michael Foot is Thatcherite.

I also forgot that you can’t discuss anything with a communist and I should know better for next time.

Not really. Anyway I looked on other forums I lurk on that are nothing to do with Wolves and every politics thread has the same fracture and bitter arguments between the left and centre left Labour supporting posters. It’s endemic. Makes me think it will be impossible to heal the wounds.

Yep. Pretty much all that. The Labour Party is split and broken. Mainly because it was foolish enough to elect Corbyn as leader in the first place. It might well be better for all if the left actually split and formed their own party as I can’t see any chance of a reconciliation.

What I would say is that there are lots of centrist votes out there waiting to be hoovered up as the Conservatives have lurched miles right. I think a Starmer position in the political spectrum is more likely to get them than a Corbyn one.

I think a Starmer that is a blend of centrist policies such as those that were put forward by Corbyn (those policies were very popular despite what you keep saying), and is charismatic, clearly younger (tick), doesn't have the skeletons that Corbyn had (tick) and passionate is definitely more palatable by the general public.

I'm not sure this version is though? What does this version stand for? Does anyone know yet?

One thing that Starmer may well find he has in his favour is that people are just bored of the Tories being in power, it happens eventually.

However if Starmer is up against Sunak or Patel i think he'll lose, if he is up against Boris or Gove, he has a good chance.

Interesting thoughts. I think Patel would be poisonous almost to the level of unelectable so I might disagree on that. I would be surprised if Boris makes an election unless he reverses this poll slump. The 1922 committee aren’t backward in coming forward with a knife for the shoulder blades of an underperforming leader.

For me Starmer stands for competence but I have been underwhelmed by PMQs considering his legal background. I thought he would eviscerate Fat Alex every Wednesday.
