MGW is crap. 2-0 down to Aaron Connoly so far.
And our record on loans is how good, exactly?
My problem with it is that:
a) If we don't know what he is (centre mid, number 10, wide forward, withdrawn striker?) then is another club with no real stake in him really going to know
b) We all know that if a team starts to struggle, the loan players are the first ones to get ditched as they're easily expendable, so you're reliant on whichever team he goes to being good
c) We have enough experience of players being used inappropriately to know that it's far from guaranteed that we or he will get anything like what we want out of it
d) He's still developing as a player and as a man. If this doesn't work out then it's a waste of a year that could prove critical
e) Most crucially, I hate the way it's so casually and commonly peddled as an easy answer. Evidence suggests that it's far more likely to fail than succeed
Of course a load of our fans hate him anyway, which I find bizarre.
I think he’d be ok when we play 3-5-2 rather than 3-4-3, he could do the Donk “covering loads of ground and breaking into the box” role (without the heading but we get from Donk).
He’s got a lot of potential - still a lot to learn but I still have high hopes for him
To be clear I'm not saying a loan can't or won't work. And yeah, Steve Cooper has worked with him and he played very well under him.
But it's the casual "send him out on loan" nonsense that annoys me. Like that'll fix everything.
