Jeremy Corbyn

The only thing that would keep me voting labour after my road to Damascus moment and abandoning of the Conservatives would be the fact that I think my current MP is very good. The leadership are rubbish at the moment though.

Pretty much the same here. I like my MP

Saw my MP in Morrisons last week. Happy to answer questions in the middle of her weekly shop and seemed a genuinely nice person. Good on local stuff as well.

How did you go about talking to them when they are "off the clock" so to speak? Seen both of mine either on the train or at the supermarket before now but never felt comfortable bothering them.

I didn't talk to her but she was happily chatting to other people. One bloke asked her if she was going to join TIG and she was happy to talk about that (the answer was no - that isn't for me). Seemed genuinely very approachable.

Think about it from their point of view. A decent constituency MP understands that every single vote may be the one that wins them the election and somebody like Paddy is worth two votes, in that they are one less vote for the opposition and one more vote for them. Most MPs get to interact with an incredibly small percentage of their voters and their best opportunity is a cold call door knock which isn’t ideal. You, however, want 5 minutes of their time and that might be all it takes to make you more likely to vote for them next time round. They should accept your request for 5 minutes and give you 10.

If they refuse unreasonably, they aren’t worth voting for in my opinion.

At a time when national political parties are so unpalatable, it is even more important to have a good constituency focussed MP.

I walk past Gavvy Gav's office a couple of times a week. He's never there. Probably too busy talking to his tarantula and threatening China.

Couldn't agree with you more. It would be great to see more MP's hold surgery at a time everybody could see them.

It’s a tough balance isn’t it - MP’s are people too, and also have lives - I’d imagine sometimes they are in a rush to pick up the kids or something and get stick for not being approachable. On the other hand, their whole job is to represent ‘the people’, so they need to be able to talk to them. Not always an easy balance I’d guess.

Good. Hope all parties follow suit. Just need to bring in vocational subjects at high school now rather than just academic.

I can’t see it happening, there is too much money/profit/vested interests involved with standardised testing.

Sophy Ridge points out that the Green party has not adopted the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism (specifically deciding not to the last time it was discussed). Boo anti-semites!

Well, the green party doesnt have a history of inviting antisemites to parliament, going to conferences with antisemites, giving speeches at rallies organised by antisemites, and endorsing social media content posted by antisemites.

So lets not claim equivalence just yet.

Anti semitism is a problem of the left, of the right and the centre. Let’s absolutely claim equivalence wherever and whenever it is justified to do so and let’s also call out those who turn a blind eye to anti semitism when it is convenient to do so for political purposes.

Im not sure 'But other parties are antisemitic too' is as much of a defence as you think it is.
