January Transfer Window, 25/26 Season

In fairness they can't really openly say 'we are obviously down so what's the point in signing anyone, it's a waste of money and anyone decent won't join anyway'.

We all know that's the case though.
I was listening to a podcast that Daz Hale was on yesterday and they were saying that if the season started today with this squad we wouldn't go down. Delusional in my view, we are now just a bad PL team as opposed to a historically bad one. Fans are starting to overrate our players again, we will still concede soft goals and struggle to score because that's who we are.

I mean, if we really want to talk about abuse and how justified it is, Matt Doherty would be a good example i think.....

I said he “seems like a nice chap” after saying he wasn’t good enough and I want us to sell him. What more do you want?! 😂
Wasn't having a go at you nor anyone else really. We all do it.

We paid basically the same for Marshall as Hwang if you take inflation into account. Both shit 🤷🏻‍♂️
I had it in my head as €12m for Hwang but appears that’s wrong. Still he was on a micro contract (till we gave him a new one…) and he was at a better age.

Still, you can’t have free range at Hwang but then take offence at Munetsi appraisals. They both aren’t good enough

Our highest paid player apparently

If we want to say he's wank we will. Stop preaching man.
You know who you're talking to, right?

As with most of my crusades, it rustles me, but I'm definitely not trying to character assassinate anyone for it.

Rules of the contract innit.

Highly likely he will leave in the summer though along with the rest of the rats deserting the ship.
Given the rest of the Summer recruitment, it's not a shock, but having a permanent deal for a player who was available at half the price a couple of months earlier, which wasn't conditional on the league we were in is special. I like him, but we immediately go into negative equity as we aren't getting £26m for him

Poor old Marshall hasn’t even had enough time to become a cult hero

This is fucking weird. For one, there has been no personal attacks. Two, it’s nothing to do with expectations being higher, tickets being expensive, salaries being higher, the invention of social media or whatever.

We were in league one and KMac, Jacob’s, Henry were good players. They were all better than Marshall Munetsi and Jacob’s barely got a career going at championship level.

I’ve also sat in the ground and told anyone that would listen that Munetsi is awful and then looked at stats on my phone at 80 mins to check what I’ve seen is correct and yes he’s completed 5 passes in that time and touched the ball less than 2 players who came on at 60 minutes. Also, much like me when I was 6 years old, he can only strike the ball if it’s bouncing.

Absolutely dreadful player which was obvious to anyone with eyes after about 5 minutes (same as Jackson). Made worse by the fact we paid €18m for this level of ability for someone in their late 20s and probably then 70k p/w on top of that.

I can’t see how anyone in Ligue 1 is paying him more than half what he’s on here so if we can somehow convince someone to pay most his wages and pay us half our money back in transfer fee in the summer we’ve done well.

And @North Shropshire Lad , criticising Hwang but not Munetsi is just weird. Hwang isn’t good enough, but he was also a fraction of the price and has actually done well at times and has some use if you play to his very limited skillset. He also probably annoys people more as he actually touches the ball in a game (and losing it) rather than hiding from it.
In paragraph one you say 'it’s nothing to do with expectations being higher, tickets being expensive, salaries being higher, the invention of social media or whatever' which is a take on my offering as to why expectation are now raised as to players performances and then in your fourth and fifth paragraphs say exactly that! "Made worse by the fact we paid €18m for this level of ability for someone in their late 20s and probably then 70k p/w on top of that." and "I can’t see how anyone in Ligue 1 is paying him more than half what he’s on here".

The last bit where you name check me has also been covered off by others. Hwang wasn't a fraction of Munesti's costs and I think we both agree that neither should be in our side. As regards why they are both picked that is possibly different but I'd rather neither be anywhere near the first team/club.

Pundits also love to overestimate the impact / ability of an English Manager too, so we get extra fictional points for that.

But my point is it was the same in league one. It was the same in the 2000s etc. Your point that the goalposts have moved and now we expect more than just effort is IMO simply not true.

Throughout time, shit players have been called shit. This hasn’t got any worse because we are in a higher division or they cost more money. I’d still think Munetsi was shit if we signed him on a free. Yes the fact he cost a fortune makes it a worse deal and an unfathomable decision. But it doesn’t change how I rate the guy he’s dreadful whether he cost 18p or £18m.

So to conclude, yes we both agree they are both rubbish. But I don’t agree that anyone would be giving Munetsi a free pass because he runs around a bit (albeit with little impact) 30 years ago.

Correct, he now doesn't get enough because people think he's 'alright' at centre half when he's manifestly dreadful and wouldn't get on the bench for any other team in the league.

Now this is criticism 😎
