January Transfer Window, 25/26 Season

I think Napoli are a bit like Sevilla [or what Seviila were] in that whilst they do buy at decent amounts, they often sell those same players incredibly well. McTominay and no doubt Hojlund (possibly Mainoo next) will be similar I'm sure. In summary it's what we are trying to achieve, we just don't do the 'well' bit!

Higuain bought for €39m from Real Madrid and sold back to them three years later for €90m. Cavani bought for €17m and sold for nearly €50m more three years later. We overpay with the Mendes tax initially and don't necessarily get full value on receipt. Some exceptions of course [Neves] but the profit often only covers the wages and that's assuming that all of the income reaches the club and not the agent.

If we get £30m for Joao, we’ll have done well.

I don’t think he’s as good as we probably think he is.
I think he's been remarkably consistent, not as good as previous seasons but lets face it he's spent most of the time firefighting the mistakes made by the absolute dross we have.
But you're right many of us over estimate our players, me included.

I’m as guilty as the next man for overrating our players, trust me.

But, for a central midfielder, Joao creates nothing, his scoring record is poor, and his discipline isn’t great either.

He’s been a solid 7/10 for us, works hard, and looks like he cares.

But Ruben Neves, he is not.

Think its harsh to say he creates nothing, not loads of assists but his ball winning ability is first class (the reason he gets so many fouls, against him) when under pressure and often leads to breaks.

Wolves & Rob Edward’s objective is to be in the Premier League in August 2027, regardless of either survival this season or promotion at the first attempt

All players have relegation salary reduction clauses & have no relegation release clauses, so Wolves can demand any price they want

Taken from this Percy article released this morning:

This January transfer window is viewed as a vital month in the rebuild as they prepare for next season.

Wolves still intend to target high-profile loan deals and genuine “starters” who can influence matches over the second half of the season. Strengthening in areas across the pitch is possible, while the club aim to be flexible in terms of departures.

After a £100m-plus spend over the summer, Wolves will now target Premier League experience. Not one of the six new additions from the summer had played in England before, and that is a major failing.

A remarkably stark statistic has been relayed internally, that being the players leaving the club last summer boasted 877 Premier League appearances between them, while the players brought in totalled zero.

Surprise, surprise - they’ve finally admitted the summer transfer was shite.

Also, if it’s viewed as a “vital month” - you should probably sign someone, lads.

Oh, and he poured cold water on the links to Barkley & Phillips.

Why would proven Premier League players join us now when we won't be a Premier League club in 4 months?
Exactly this. But it allows them to get to the end of the window without signing anyone so they can then say “we tried but it was tricky given our position”.

“Premier League proven” is such a stupid thing to say anyway. If we are genuinely looking to recruit with next season in mind, I’m sure there are players in the Championship (and elsewhere) who potentially have a ceiling to play at a higher level - someone like Hackney at ‘boro, for example (first one that jumps to mind) - who we could approach.

I actually think we may go the whole window without adding anyone.
