Our fans always had weird opinions on Semedo all along, but it was vastly underplayed how easy a decision that was week after week. He's fit and available, he plays, I haven't got to worry about that*. Now it's just guessing who's going to be least bad. They're all bad.

Fucking hell we couldn't get players in when we were on equal points with Arsenal, so how the fuck do they think we can get competent enough players in January to at least battle Derby's record.

There came a time when I realised that I'd been kidding myself about the quality of our players for decades, in effect gaslighting myself.

There were exceptions, some of which are obvious, but it took seeing players like Jota, Neves, Jimenez, Moutinho, Boly, Jonny and others for me to realise that these were proper players... not the imposters that I'd been seeing pretty much up to that period. The quality was off the scale and a different level.

It's the same (to an extent) with Semedo... those that were calling him out can see the job that he was doing when you look at what's replaced him.

I've no idea what we'll do in January? It seems strange to be thinking of clearing the decks when some of these players have only been here for months, but they're garbage.

We're only fighting for pride now... so whoever comes in you just want them to have some fight and be up for the challenge of the Championship.

It's only really in hindsight that we should have sold JSL in the Summer, unless Shi, Pereira etc knew he was going to effectively go on strike. However we rejected £55m, a deal was there to be done at £60m, now the asking price is £40m and West Ham understandably won't pay that. We'll 'lose' £25m+ in less than 6 months for a player that's not had a serious injury, more if you include the inflated salary. That's some effort.

The problem in the summer was we were still trying to find a number of replacements and with no back up to JSL adding another first team player to that list made little sense, especially as he’d done well last season. The summer put the previous few windows in the spotlight as we had no replacements lined up for any of the players that left. The majority on here would have happily driven him to Newcastle for £60m (fee not taxi fare!) if we’d had someone capable waiting in the wings but we didn’t and consequently it was a step too far.

I agree, although in our typical end of the window trolley dash we did sign his replacement, given the manager involved in the recruitment had no intention of playing them together. Also typically from what I've seen I don't think he's PL standard, but that's another discussion

Because I'm an idiot, I thought there *had* to be a plan. Like if you've spent £24m on someone and you've flat out refused to sell the other one for a silly fee (no hindsight there, everyone knows he was never worth that kind of money) then you must have something worked out.

Turns out they didn't.

Oh and they're about 13 foot tall between them, but we have no wingers.

Having lost Guedes and Cunha we had nobody else who could play CF so another one was essential even though we didn’t sell JSL. Sadly it looks like back up is all he’s good for.
