January 2022 Transfer Thread

Wasn't it you that got outed as being a meek little mouse by someone who knew you irl? Awfully agro on here, especially for someone who apparently doesn't even support this club. Wonder what's got you so wound up, too timid to vent your frustrations in real life?
This post makes me pretty uncomfortable to be honest. Really unpleasant and shouldn't be tolerated on the forum IMO.

Loan fees are like renting something. You pay some money for the privilege of having it for a year. Unless it’s from a big club to a lower league where they may feel the player getting experience is better than any cash (and lower league clubs have no money), but Palace will definitely have paid for Connor Gallagher I’d imagine.

We agreed a fee for Willian Jose and Vitinha and paid a deposit. We then chose not to sign them so lost the deposit. Not really a penalty, just a rental fee, can’t expect to have another teams player for free

haven't been on in a while, but just wanted to say... screw you mark or jim or whatever your name is, you big idiot!

now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go back a few pages to see why mark needs to be insulted (I presume it's for something reasonable and just wanted to get ahead of the curve)

A straight swap looks poor business unless Trincao steps up a level before the end of the season. Based on his performances to date it’s like getting £15m for Traore.

If he continues as he has done for the last two games in which he's played, then he's made the step up already.

Big if, of course, but he has a remarkably high ceiling if we can just unlock him.

Different from Traore who is what he is.

That "deal" makes the Fabio deal look good.

Agreed Wilf, my positive spin is we're swapping someone who may be able to play in Lage's system versus someone who never will. At the moment I'd have rather got the £20m we were after and spent it elsewhere though. Ironically we'll end up giving Trincao the wage Adama left for us not doing

Feel we've been mugged off there. Would rather have had the cash, but of course Barca have no cash.

Lets hope Trincao proves me wrong over the rest of the season.

Exactly this.

Also I hope we're not paying him £120k a week ffs. For that sort of money he'd need to be one of our best players, which looks an awfully long way away

I imagine money will still be exchanged for FFP purposes?

I do like Trincao. I think he's been unfortunate not to have scored by now (I know, some terrible finishing at times) but I do think he will 'come good' if we persist. I think he'd be a lot better next season too having had a year to experience Premier League football.

We're essentially making a slight profit on what we paid for Adama of around £7m. That'll probably be offset by Trincao's wages though.

Ultimately we've got a player who fits Bruno’s style better and got decent money (£25) for a player that wanted away.

I think I'm slightly more optimistic about Trincao than a lot of others on this board. I think he's going to be a special player, but he might take 2-3 years to get there. I'd have been gutted to see him flourish somewhere else. Ultimately, Adama wanted to leave and it's a dream move for him to go back to Barca, so there was always going to be some sort of deal struck from there. Hopefully we can knock Trincao's wage demands a little.

I’m not against signing Trincao but valuing him the same as Traore irrespective of the latter’s contract situation doesn’t sit well with me.

We have effectively gained £20m of FFP wiggle room for no cash outlay bar wages and agent fees. That’s the sense of it.

Whether we have done anything better than stood still in terms of squad is much more debatable.
