January 2020 transfer window

Be fair, the recruitment up to now has been top notch

Our recruitment this summer has failed to improve the starting XI in any position, it was abject failure.

Without Mendes/ Nuno our recruitment has been fucking wank. Thelwell is a fucking charlatan operating at least s division too high and hasn't bought in a single player to improve the first team in at least a calendar year.

Fuck him and his recruitment team off and get competent individuals in.

You ain't doing that on the 4th of January though, are you.

Yeah but unless you know loads of really good unemployed football recruitment folk, anyone you employ is going to have to work some kind of notice or gardening leave period in all likelihood.

Which means we sign no-one this month, or ask Uncle Jorge for the millionth favour.

No issue with reviewing it forensically at the end of the season and assessing who brought in who, and who isn't pulling their weight.

Nuno hasn't got time to watch loads of other teams' games, we've played 36 of our own since July.

I would ask Nuno and Jorge as you say. Then bin Thelwell and his inadequates and get new folks in so they are right for the summer. The danger is we don't improve and lose the great players we have now.

I don't think anyone is in imminent danger of leaving (of the top players anyway). They're all tied up under long contracts, Neves will be too expensive, Jota isn't scoring enough goals, Raul is too old, Moutinho is too old, Boly has been injured and is also too old, Coady isn't glamorous enough and can only play exactly where he does now, same as Doc, at worst we're still highly likely to finish in the top half of the PL which is a hell of a lot for anyone else to compete with and we could still win something, you never know.

Kevin Thelwell being here or not is not going to promote an exodus.

Like I say, review it when you have time.

We don't right now, we probably do need 2-3 players in the next three and a bit weeks, so don't create needless instability by messing around behind the scenes. Besides which, if it were on the cards, you'd have done it before now. Not just after you drew 0-0 against Yernited.

I will also add that there isn't a club in the entire world who perpetually make upgrades in every single transfer window ever. At some point it stops, or you fuck up, or it just doesn't happen. And as oft said, it's easier to upgrade on Dave Edwards than it is Romain Saiss, for example.

Could and should we have done more, yes. Is it that easy, no.

To be fair if you look at it objectively (and with a bit of hindsight admittedly) Cutrone was already proven to a point and is an Italian international, 21 years old with room to grow. A lot like Dendoncker. Nobody will ever really know why he hasn't worked but nobody was against the signing when he was made. To me it just looks like he doesn't suit our style of play at all, he's an off the shoulder player and would thrive with that kind of service but we don't play that way. If he's unhappy at not playing it's completely understandable and he'll be off sooner rather than later. Best of luck.

Neto was one of the £20m twins that came in for much scorn on here as well as everywhere else but is now proving that he's a decent addition to the squad and is first team ready, even though he has a lot to improve on. Would anyone pay £10m for him now? I'm sure they would.

Jordao has been injured, not much we can judge there.

Vallejo was a numbers signing (by Kev T from what I understand) and as a loan was risk free to a point. He's going so no great loss.

We didn't improve the first team no, but we're at a point where if you can upgrade Moutinho, Neves, Raul, Boly, Jota etc then it's going to cost a hell of a lot of money. And someone will end up pissed off. I'm pretty sure the club were hedging their bets over whether we qualified for Europe or not, if not then the additions of Cutrone and Vallejo (given they took to the task) would have been fine for a 38 game season.

Why are the news outlets pushing the Jimenez to United bullshit that stemmed from a total joke of a twitter feed? It's a nonsense and a non-starter unless Ed Woodward wants to give us Maguire levels of money and then some.

Because Ole was asked about it and said he played well (which he did, mostly).

United chuck money around really poorly but they aren't going to pay what we'd ask for someone who turns 29 before the end of the season.

Precisely. It's an utter non-starter. Even Jim White would be embarrassed to run with it.

And that's down to the quality of your bavkroom staff. It isn't easy but that's what they get paid for. Football is a pure meritocracy and if you fail you get booted. Somehow we've landed this charlatan who hasn't improved anything and when, arguable the easiest, window comes around to recruit in he fails. Miserably. Not even close to being a good window.

Thelwell now has the chance to change that. I wouldn't be giving it to him, I'd be booting him now.

Well that would be baby out with the bath water wouldn't it? Earliest he can go is the summer realistically. The window is open.

I'm not even necessarily disagreeing but this perpetual improvement never happens.

Look at City this window. Lose a key centre half and club icon, don't replace him, leave yourself with three options at LB who are all rubbish, spend nearly all the money on a midfielder who is good but not what you really needed...would you sack Txiki on that basis?

Id seriously doubt Thelwell is going anywhere tbh,he's not long been promoted onto the board, someone somewhere must be fairly happy he's doing a decent job.
Jeff shi is the next one out the door isn't he? His replacement is already here and learning the trade,I'm fairly sure wolves said this in a press release,or in a video somewhere
