Israel-Palestine

So Israeli army accidentally shoots three Israeli hostages. And this provoked protests in Israel demanding the army be more intense in getting the hostages out and stop with all the being nice shit that has been soooo obvious recently.

Fucking odd.
That's not what I saw on TV, the people I saw were talking about more cease fires to enable hostage swaps.

Ben Wallace going in harder on Israel than anybody on either front bench. I think there's a definite sense that things are shifting politically

I absolutely defend Israel’s right to defend itself.

But I also believe strongly in our obligations under the Geneva Conventions and expect all signatories to uphold them. Going after Hamas is legitimate; obliterating vast swathes of Gaza is not. Using proportionate force is legal, but collective punishment and forced movement of civilians is not.

We are entering a dangerous period now where Israel’s original legal authority of self-defence is being undermined by its own actions. It is making the mistake of losing its moral authority alongside its legal one.
If [Netenyahu] thinks a killing rage will rectify matters, then he is very wrong. His methods will not solve this problem. In fact, I believe his tactics will fuel the conflict for another 50 years. His actions are radicalising Muslim youth across the globe.

When all this is over, and the IDF withdraws from what is left of Gaza, there will still be Hamas. All the action will have achieved is the extinction, not of the extremists, but the voice of the moderate Palestinians who do want a two-state solution.

International sympathy will have expired and Israel will be forced to exist in an even greater state of siege.

The quantity of people who died on October the 7th has fallen, which is good news.

Whilst probably correct, Owen Jones just looks like someone whinging because he feels left out at times. I don’t think I have seen a single positive thing from him since Starmer became leader. I could be wrong, I often am, but that certainly seems to be the impression he gives.

Jones just calls him out. Starmer has had a ridiculously easy ride from the media.

Probably because he is undeniably beige. There isn’t a lot for the RWP to get their teeth into. Which while the Conservative Party is self-immolating makes a fair amount of sense. It is dull though.

If you want say the Mirror to start laying into him for being too centrist I don’t think that will happen this side of the election.

Israeli President saying they're ready for another humanitarian pause to free hostages and get aid in

And the response:

“We affirm our position of categorically rejecting to hold any form of negotiations over prisoners exchange under the continuing Israeli genocidal war”, Basem Naem said.

“We are, however, open to any initiative that contributes to ending the aggression on our people and opening the crossings to bring in aid and provide relief to the Palestinian people,”

Over 100 dead in Iran after explosions at memorial service. No firm link to Israel and nobody's taken responsibility, but a couple of Iranian politicians have publicly pointed the finger towards Tel Aviv

Could have been the US; anything the Houthi's do we basically just say Iran has done. Political climate would make it even easier to fly under the radar.

Complete speculation but we have form for this sort of thing, obviously.

The US bombing a celebration of a general killed in a US airstrike. It's the kind of thing Alanis would sing about
