Hillsborough

I'm pretty sure that Taylor's report blamed the lack of police control outside the ground and the failure to close the tunnel once the extra gate had been opened.

They opened the extra gate because the turnstile blocks were crumbling and couldn't cope with the number of fans still waiting to get into the ground.

I can't remember if it was on here or on the Mix but I recall someone saying that a similar thing almost happened when we played in a semi final at Hillsborough some years earlier too and that it was extremely overcrowded.

How could people at the back of that crowd be aware of the horror unfolding 50 or more metres away from them - they wouldn't have seen anything. The police had eyes everywhere and failed to act appropriately.

Leaving Loftus Road from the away end is not an entirely voluntary act. The concourseis narrow and you effectively move with the crowd. Had anything untoward happened after the game there would have been no escape for the many Wolves fans.

An individual has very little impact on a crowd in such situations which is why we have people in place to exercise some control.

I refuse to remove all responsibility from the individual.

Something similar almost happened at Molineux. When we won the fourth division, I think the last game was at home to Hartlepools United, and the South Bank was full, only half the ground fit for use in those days. I was near the front with my two young sons, when there was a crowd surge. Fortunately, I got my two sons into the Waterloo Road stand, and while a few people suffered minor crush injuries, a serious incident was avoided by the quick actions of Police and stewards.

There were faults from various quarters and whilst i have total sympathy for all the bereaved families, I wish the actual Liverpool crowd, many of whom entered without tickets, would accept some blame. Instead it was " everybody's else's fault - not ours"

It nearly did but Tottenham fans were in the Leppings Lane end and managed to climb fences to get into different sections. Footage of that day was shown in the aftermath of the disaster.

Mark..
You ever go to games in the 80's at all??..being herded by mounted police outside the ground?

Season before, the head copper set up staggered ticket checkpoints which delayed the crowds into the ground..

Following season nothing...everyone was herded straight to the ground.

People outside getting seriously crushed...
Coppers open the gates (or if your a copper, drunken Liverpool fans kick fuck out of gates)
and so in a large crowd and after being crushed the first thing your greeted with is this...
hillsborough-petition.jpg
which way would you go?...
Season before...coppers blocked this off and guided folks to side terracing..

Each to their own.

They had access to over 450000 pages of evidence. You?

The campaign has taken on the state and forced them to admit their failings, the failings of the police and medical services. Failures that include the potential deaths of 41 people that could have been avoided after the 3.15 cut off It has been fully accepted that those in charge deliberately set out to misinform, mislead and smear - a tactic so successful that their lies continue to be repeated despite actual evidence of amended and withdrawn statements.

Why should they? This report absolves them of all blame? Would you accept responsibility for something you hadn't done?

Liverpool fans climbed over walls outside due to the crushing...you can clearly see this on the cctv..
The notion that loads and loads of liverpool fans came without tickets is ridiculous when you see how empty the two side pens are in the ground..

Yep we won 2-0. It was strange as we were in the right flank of the South Bank which had been used exclusively for away fans all season, I was 11 at the time and it scared the living shit out of me.

Different era mate for a start.

absolutely - you can't apply modern views on how things are done to something that happened over 20 years ago.

I'm sure hillsborough played its part in setting up the policing and safety of big events that we have now.

Everyone, even dead kids tested for alcohol levels.
Coppers searched criminal computer records on all the dead to sully their names.

Cant wait to see the front of the Sun in the morning..
Apparently Kelvin isnt picking up his phone.
