General Wolves News

Guess the club don't want to sell, then refund.

The results of the test events, just 15 positive tests after should he leading to near max capacity but you will need to be fully jabbed or have a neg test result to get in. (All guess work of course as who knows what Boris Shakespeare will think of the day he has to decide)

Listened to the Molineux View podcast.
Summary:
Spiers balanced on Lage, agreed it has to work or they'll be a fan reaction
Sellars would have preferred a proper recruitment process
Vinny is patsy for Jeff
Brand is now more important than team
Rui doesn't necessarily want to leave, it was about value, but now looks like it won't happen
Neves pretty much guaranteed to go
Sell before we buy is real
Fans should prepare for a frustrating Summer

And you can pretty much guarantee every view from other podcasters will be different.

On the bottom 4 points

1) Good
2) Never in doubt
3) As above, been too much noise for it not to be true
4) So like a normal summer for Wolves fans then

The brand more important than the team thing is something I think is true. Jeff seems to talk a lot about exposure and reaching fans all over the world. It does make sense to me, if we can offer more potential views of a product compared to our rivals we'll attract bigger sponsorship deals.

That said, teams that win more can probably attract bigger sponsorship deals too

The brand is intrinsically linked to the team though - it’s nonsense to consider the two separately.

It's not, by brand he means the wider none footballing stuff - Esports, fashion etc. Not so much to the detriment of the team, but the number 1 focus is Wolves being more than football

Liverpool had many years well off the pace but you can guarantee their brand was more successful than their league placing. That was no doubt because of previous success on the field. There must be scope to grow the brand more quickly than on-field success alone would achieve so no harm in trying to do so. That said the extra growth will be small compared to that which would accompany a winning team, but it won’t cost the many millions that will be needed to achieve that.

You can't separate the two - he (we) are confusing brand with secondary sales opportunities. The Wolves brand (and additional sales) will only follow if we have a reasonably successful PL team

It's going to be really hard to build brand wolves, we've not been consistently successful for 70 odd years, and fairly successful for 50 years, most of that time we've been an average/poor team in the old industrial Midlands, that's a very hard sell for any brand to start from.
First off we need to stay in the premier league, gets us seen around the world, then if we can build on that by getter a better team, which then brings better players, regular wins against the "big six" and cup runs build up our profile, which brings in bigger better sponsorship and more money.
Step after that is obviously European competitions and again it's a start small and build, this all takes time and money, you have to keep investing to keep building, and it's looking like that's failing at the first step of building, whether that's Jeffs problem for not asking fosun for money, or fosun realising its a bigger spend than they thought, who knows?
You could come from our history side of it to build the brand, we were innovative on the playing side under Cullis, there's the invention of European football was down to us, as was playing under floodlights, you could push the sort of quirky side, with the wolf head( which like it or not, is distinctive) our gold colours and the whole pack thing, which again is divisive

Man City weren't a very big side or brand until recently. You have to chuck lots of money at it to make it happen short term though.

I'm not sure that's strictly true, the forays into eSports for example, would have little to do with the first team but would expose any partners to a whole bunch of people who don't watch football.

It's chicken feed right now in terms of numbers, but a win in a major eSports event would probably yield more followers than wolves finishing a few higher places up in the PL.

Bloody eSports. Not a hope that does anything for us, such utter nonsense.

That's the Red Bull model they were taking about though. Doesn't really matter what we think of it, it's where the focus is in terms of brand building. The football team is just one element of that
