Actually it is. If you want to take a quick free kick, then you have to take it quickly. If the ref has drawn the lines and the opposition are setting up a wall then you have to wait for them.

Reminds me of when a referee holds off a corner being be taken to tell players to stop grappling. Just blow your whistle, let the corner be taken and then if there's a foul committed give it.

Just watched through old Match of the 70's from the 70/71 season. Amazed to see us in 3rd place in the league in May. We only featured in 1 clip losing narrowly to Leeds. Some old boys featured Hunt and Carr for Coventry ( the donkey free kick), and Colchester beating Leeds in the Cup with Ray Crawford.
