General Wolves News

Absolutely baffled by Hwang. When we signed him and he looked really tidy in front of goal, I recall rumours that Man Utd wanted to bring him in over January.

It seems that everything he had going for him has since completely dissipated - specifically a fantastic first touch and real ability to hit the back of the net.

We’ll I completely with you on being baffled! In fairness through, if there’s one thing that does seem to have improved it’s his first touch. From the startling bad to the unremarkable. Not that we get much chance to see it as he’s taken to hiding behind so many defenders he barely gets any touch.

He's a decent finisher and works hard, demonstrating that by saying Coady is the 3rd best in the PL is an interesting way to do so. You have to put him close to the number 9 where he will offer little else, but we aren't exactly free scoring, so maybe it's the way forward, but then where do Neto and Podence play?

Decent finisher who doesn’t get into positions to shoot, doesn’t work openings to shoot, refuses to shoot or touch is so shit misses the opportunity.

Hit low shot number and chances created tells you he does fuck all and pressing less than Podence is not good! High conversion rate by doing nothing but having a couple land in his lap.

As I said, I wouldn't play him, but if you do then it's clear what he needs to be

Yeah wasn’t referring to your thoughts more Tim’s nonsense and trying to selectively use stats when if anything they prove the opposite.

I wasn’t going to post about my dislike of Hwang/article but then couldn’t help myself.

He's just not very good. Outside of Austria his record is 7 goals in 64 games. Rather like Dave Edwards he is making his name off one good mini scoring run.

What I took from that article is that Hwang makes less attempts to press the opposition than Trincão. That's a horror of a stat.

He also creates less and plays less passes into the box than Trincão...

I thought he worked hard but that Newcastle game put that to bed. Just stood on the touchline, didn’t make runs forward, didn’t track back. Played 5 yard passes backwards whenever he got the ball. Genuinely awful. Anyone here could have put in the exact same performance

Baffled?

I’d have thought it was fairly obvious we’re playing him in the wrong position and Britney’s article highlights this perfectly.

Hwang is a poacher in a 4-4-2, we’re badly misusing him as a left side inside forward in the wrong formation for him.

How Lage can say he’s glad to sign him is beyond me, I can only think he’s gone full sock puppet.

Or he is crazy and thinks Hwang is the first one of many the club will sign to assist him in playing a formation/style he wants.

Can't give any other explanation why we now play him out of position other than he wants him settling in and he doesn't trust the huge squad he has to switch how they play.

So soon after calling Hoever out in public for being a lazy bastard? Can't see it myself. Sounds like Lage is genuinely happy to have signed him, which is more fool him if he continues to use him the way he does.

I suspect Hwang will be shit in a 4-4-2 as well.

Was obvious from his first appearance in a Wolves shirt that Hwang wasn’t comfortable or useful in a wide area. I was sat next to Banjo in the North Bank and we both said as much. Equally, it was also just as obvious that he was better used in a front pairing or staying close to Raul. When he scored two against Newcastle, running off Raul, I really thought we were on to something.

Sadly Bruno had persisted to use him in a role where he is ineffectual & his confidence seems to have drained, whilst the fans have started to lose patience with him. I’ve still no idea why we announced his signing so early.

He's not awful, but he isn't the standard for where we are or want to be. Although you can also be forgiven for thinking he is awful from the last two appearances also. He might suit a 4-4-2 slightly better in a Norwich or similar. We'd only play him in a two ourselves because we're so devoid of options through poor/no recruitment ourselves

Not sure I've sat next to you at a Wolves game since April 2019.

Don't disagree with the point, mind.
