Fair enough. I wasn't sure of the size of the fee rather than I thought it was quite a lot. Not as much as I thought.
Are bungs a punishable offence in football? Memory could serve me wrong there but I'm pretty sure they are. I which case I'd say that was an infinitely more stupid strategy as it would be so blatantly fucking obvious.Seriously?
How bad is a strategy to be paying £35m on a gamble? A club record fee on a punt on a player who has never played any senior football.
I can't believe people still think this wasn't a bung.
It's set us back years.
I'm not sure they are in Europe as seen by the Haaland deal. Are bungs a punishable offence in football? Memory could serve me wrong there but I'm pretty sure they are. I which case I'd say that was an infinitely more stupid strategy as it would be so blatantly fucking obvious.
It was being investigated as part of this big operation in Portugal. Think Porto only booked it at like €25m. Mendes is clever enough to cover his tracks if there was anything illegal. Are bungs a punishable offence in football? Memory could serve me wrong there but I'm pretty sure they are. Don’t know specifics. Just know nearly a 1/3 of the money went to third parties and Porto only booked a portion of the fee, which they can’t doIsn't the unusual amount of money that found it's way into Fabio's dad's hands part of Portuguese investigation into Mendes?
There are plenty of things that aren't illegal but are proper dodgy, look at our wonderful government for details, look how obvious some of that has been. Are bungs a punishable offence in football? I wouldn't compare that bunch of vile cunts to anybody else to be fair. There are plenty of things that aren't illegal but are proper dodgy, look at our wonderful government for details, look how obvious some of that has been.
Melodramatic for a player who was highly rated across Europe. I'm not saying he was worth the money, I'm just pointing out he wasn't available for less than that price. Sorry. Therefore we took a gamble, not a great one so far, but I hardly think Raul is showing him up at current standards.Seriously?

So why do you sign him then?. I'm not saying he was worth the money, I'm just pointing out he wasn't available for less than that price.

That`s cowboy builders for you.On football manager

There’s only 4 forwards in the history of football that have gone for fees big enough to make this “gamble” successful. They involved Juventus, PSG, Real and Chelsea. So he has to become the worlds best AND go to one of the silly clubs with unlimited money. Simply going to Liverpool/Arsenal/Spurs won’t be enough. The club would have had more chance buying a lottery ticket, and the initial stake for that isn’t £35m!
Let’s put it this way. We’ve bought a house, 3x it’s value for no real reason. We’ve them had to spend countless hours and money doing it up because it wasn’t fit for purpose. As a result of that, our life has been fucking miserable as we can barely afford to live and the house we’re living is rubbish. But then 5 years down the line, some billionaire sees massive potential in this land so they give us our money back and a little profit. After all the hours of effort and years of living in squalor on the breadline was it worth it…
This is a good point. And there certainly have been times when Fabio has looked like hes carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. I feel for him really, its not his fault our owners are fucking idiots. He's clearly got potential but paying so much for him has to weigh on him.Added to all that you are heaping significant pressure on him. I don't know him, so have no idea how he's handled it, but you'd have have one hell of a mature temperament to not let that fee, the expectations that come with it and the cynicism from both within and outside the fan base about it affect you.
Steady on now, Lincs. I have enough on my hands with our five keepers playing in the 6th and 7th tiers without all this to contend with.Keep going at this rate like we're going to have to redeploy @Sedgley Wolf on the Loan Watch thread.
It's getting to the stage now we need the accounts out to try and understand just exactly what's going on.
My bold prediction is; No chance. It’s all with the premise that he becomes world class and someone actually wants to buy him, and it still would be debateable whether it’s worth it.
Him becoming world class is a big fucking IF
FWIW that's on our supporters for being dumb. Except Johnny who isn't dumb but I do disagree with. This is a good point. How dare someone enjoy their time at work!
