[FA Cup 3rd Rnd] Liverpool 2-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I thought we were refreshingly excellent.

JL has made us brave, they played with a confidence they never had under Lage.

Traores best game in ages, Hodge, Jonny, Guedes did well and Neves was great - he’s back on the money with his passing.

Nunes has moments where he absolutely looks like the best player on the pitch by a mile. I giving JL sone credit here - he just didn’t look right under Lage.

Jimenez looks miles off, Toti isn’t a footballing CH and Collins looks like he always has a mistake in him - but everyone played a part and at least the effort was there.

Play like that every week and we will have no worries.

I'm so, so angry about that. I've often scoffed, and doubtless condescended, at the suggestion of refereeing corruption or bias top level English football, but fuck me it's hard to argue after that.

Taking them one at a time, if it is a rule that a deliberate deflection negates the fact he's offside and the literal reason for the deliberate deflection, then that's probably one of the stupidest rules in football. As it seems from the above that it's not a firm rule but an interpretation, then the referee is an absolute cunt.

On the offside (I haven't been on the match thread but skimmed the verdict thread and think it may have been covered, so maybe somebody can summarise for me), but I'd always thought you couldn't be offside if the ball didn't go forward? Not that he was offside anyway looking at that still.

And the fact that var can't see Nunes at any point surely makes var's use in the game completely inappropriate? Like surely it's got to be fully functional in any one game or not used at all. I know it wasn't var that disallowed it but what's the fucking point of it if it can't confirm one of the only rules in the whole fucking game that's definitely black and white.

Feel robbed but actually think it will do the spirit and mentality in the group the world of good.

We'll be absolutely fine, providing we're not relying on the likes of Raul, Adama and Hodge to impact games at all. Some really good performances today, and a collectively good performance, barring the first ten minutes and a spell in the second half when we were camped in our third for 15 minutes

There were disgusting decisions all the way through. Ait Nouri goes down injured (I hope he’ll be ok for next week) and the ref refuses to allow the medical team on knowing full well a change is needed. He try’s to instruct him to get off the field and allow the game to continue. Fair play to our staff to go on regardless.

That’s because that moron played one of the best young number 8’s in Europe as a 10.

But at least he told him he had nice trainers in his signing video.

That doesn't affect the interpretation of phases of play. What that means is if a player is offside and it takes a minor deflection off a defender then he remains offside. Toti played the ball (badly) so it becomes another phase of play. It should be offside, but isn't

I was as disgusted with Davies who continued doing it.

Yeah, I amended my post to reflect that.

It's such a bullshit loophole that I don't think anyone in the game thinks is right except for the rule makers

Fucked off with the VAR (there's no excusing that and must have had the Villa goal line technology team working it)

That aside my god it's nice to have our football team back and something to get excited about.

You can still be offside if the ball goes backwards. You can’t be offside if you are behind the player that played the ball. So even if the ball goes backwards, and you are jnfront of the player so have to run backwards, you can be offside

My main hope is that the simmering resentment helps us go on and win more games in all competitions. Especially against Liverpool in the PL fixture.

Lopetegui has given me my club back, after that useless cunt.
The players look better, and have been the better team than Livarpool.

We are not going down under Lopetegui, not only that we will win a trophy under him, and have a European journey again you heard it here first.

I love this guy, not quite Nuno's level but he ain't far off
