Ex-Wolf Watch

I have watched this in its entirity over the last few days.

Few observations:

*The coverage was really good, Andy Gray, Martin Tyler, Jim Rosenthal, a 20 min or so build up, the full compliment. Not sure if it was shown on terrestrial TV on the day? This level of coverage suggests it was, which ulis a bit surprising.

*perhaps unsurprisingly it was so bloody physical, at least 4 tackles that would be straight red cards today.

*Floyd Streete was bloody outstanding, I have more of a kick it and head it memory of him, but in this game he was so classy, dropping the shoulder, marrauding runs forward, turning beautifully and reading the game superbly. Class.

*Jackie Gallagher wasn't as overweight as I remember.

*in game interviews with the managers, very bloody weird! Imagine now asking Nuno his thoughts immediately after we'd conceded a goal!? They do that here.

*Mark Kendall had a HELL of a kick on him, especially for the time.

*ultimately we just wanted it more than them and had more quality, Mutch and Bull must have been vile to play against.

In house VHS?

Bar the two domestic cup finals (not this one!) and the odd England game there was basically no live football on TV in 87/88. Our coverage was the goals from the weekend on Central News on a Monday for 30 seconds. Maybe!

Must have been!? Just seems high budget from either Burnley and/or Wolves. (Maybe Sherpa Vans paid for it)

Although I guess neither Tyler, nor Gray had the reputation then that they did a few years later. Rosenthal did though.

The quality of the coverage for the time is very good, particularly when compared to our other VHS season review type stuff from that era. :ROFLMAO:

Think Andy Gray was still playing.

VHS was big then. We definitely had a Littlewoods Cup 89/90 tape, a compilation of the best goals from each round and extended highlights of the semis and final. Tyler voiceover on that one too.

Here it is!

(We aren't on it. Though we should have been, just for Bully's goal. Brilliant, brave and brilliant. Sid Cowans and Derek Mountfield both playing for Villa)

I went to the game but as I was 8 I don't have the best memory of it. Think we were a bit unlucky to go out.

I like that they used to compile a tournament video like that, God knows who'd buy it though other than fans of the winners.

Always a winner for extended family at Christmas. "Get Dan a football video, he'll watch anything" :D

Went to both games & we were unlucky over both legs to go out, 1st leg pulled it back to 1-1 & Bully a handful for Mountfield & McGrath & we had got on top when he had to go off injured completely changed nature of game, McGrath was able to go forward & help their midfield after that, ended 2-1.
2nd leg plenty of missed chances after soft Villa goal cost us.

I was at both legs as well and it was two games that confirmed in my mind it would only be a matter of time before another promotion and us having games like this on a regular basis. How wrong I was.

I also recall the Bull/McGrath battle. This was peak Bull and it made me realise how good McGrath was.

MGW was getting lots of love on East Midlands today last night. A family who apparently live close to him had done banners and signs congratulating him and the Under 21's on their Euro success. He stopped his car when he went past, posed for pictures etc and then said he'd be back in two minutes. Came back with one of his England shirts and gave it to the family.

Hadn't realised that Jo Lescott was part of the coaching staff for the U21s Euros win. Good on him.

Still can't believe how weird BT's coverage was with him for the CL final though. Going on like he's some City die hard and lifelong fan. He played more games for us than them.

Isn't he a Villa fan?

Yes that was weird to watch. I had to double check how long he was there.
