Ex-Wolf Watch

I think Birch joined after he left?

Ooh, what about Stewart? He was 94 I think, Cookie was still here then. 6 Pauls in one team...?

We had two Paul Jones, Birch, Cook and Blades might have been Edwards for 6!

I chucked out my old programmes the other year which would have confirmed it.

Yep it was Blades who joined after Jones (outfield) and possibly Edwards left.

We had 5 Paul's, my memory isn't quite shot after all, I can only put the popularity down to a certain band from the 60s.

McLoughlin would have overlapped with Stancliffe though...

A Paul XI:

Jones

Blades
Stancliffe
Butler
Edwards

Jones
Cook
Ince
Birch

McLoughlin
Stewart

I didn't say it was a good XI. The oldies* can put Bradshaw in nets if they want.

*If you're older than me, you're old now, officially

On standby at Penn Tandoori.

McLoughlin and Stewart both did actually score for us so they win in the most minor way possible.

He did score for us.

I wasn't planning on putting him up front though. He's in the team for his defen....

Actually, no.

Ah ok, just thought you were listing who scored - but then cookie scored a few, and birch definitely scored at least one screamer.

Disappointed by the lack of modern Pauls though

I'm having 'PeeWee' Dougherty in midfield instead of Jones. Worryingly, this is probably the best of the back four...

While we're on about players who never scored, Berra has retired today.

Then had a pretty good goalscoring record for a centre back for his first two seasons at Ipswich rather infuriatingly!

I always felt he was a better player at Wolves than he was given credit for.

The "wrestling players in the box is going to cost us penalties" criticism was always thrown at him, yet did he ever give a penalty away for this?

Not for us, he did at Ipswich

Paul Edwards, apologies for the source picture but his hair was a truimph of geometry over taste

He was alright, just turned like a skip and was rubbish on the ball. In terms of basic defending he was fine and didn't let us down very often in the PL.

If Saunders hadn't frozen him out like the prick he is we might well have stayed up in 2012/13, he was our best defender (a low bar).
