Everton (A) 4/12: Build-Up & Match Thread

Everton are in poor form. Can't score. Have a lot of really tough fixtures to come over the next month. This is surely a must win for them. Dyche is probably safe until the ownership situation is resolved but they are in serious trouble right now.

We're going to concede for sure, but this might be a game we can at least outscore the opposition. Really not confident and would take a draw.

Well, given tonight’s results, this has just become a “must win”, not that it wasn’t already. Lose tomorrow and we start to get cut adrift.

Liam says O'Neil has said Sa is set to keep his place against Everton

We do have a very good record against Everton in the past 3 seasons including 3 away wins, so hopefully that good form continues by hook or by crook tomorrow night.

We've got to try and keep it tight tonight and hit them on the counter. This is a must win for them much more than us as they have a horrific set of fixtures coming up. The pressure is all on them.

Looks like Doc will have to play unfortunately but I'd still play a standard 4-2-3-1 and tell both full-backs to sit and defend first and foremost.

Lemina can't be played at CB, it's just too risky, and Dawson is starting to make too many mistakes on the ball. Bueno has been our best CB since he got his start back against Liverpool so he should start either alongside Toti, or Dawson.

I'd stick with Rodrigo on the left as he was the only winger we had trying to beat his full-back and get into the box against Brentford. Bellegarde isn't ideal but we need someone who'll help Doherty defend down that side of the pitch. Knowing GON though he'd play Lemina there just to get him on the pitch, as he has done before. I'm not totally averse to that away from home, but it makes us a bit lopsided in attack.

.......................... Sa

Doherty - Bueno - Toti - RAN

............... Gomes - Andre

Bellegarde - Cunha - Rodrigo

...................... Larsen

We cannot keep it tight, we have a fucking shite defence. We've got to out score them.
Yep.

We need to go at them, them being shite at scoring and us being high scorers should hopefully get us the win...

If only it was that simple...

Been deliberating about tonight, Wednesday is my regular night down the pub with my mates which is always fun. Against that is Wolves on Prime which is one of the few chances I get to watch us on TV. I'm coming to the conclusion an evening I know I'll enjoy is better than the alternatives. I'm a shit fan.
Also I'll be checking my phone every 5 minutes.

Our defence isn’t world class but a lot of our issues come from our set up when we have the ball. We commit too many bodies into areas that don’t affect the game when we have it but leave us open to conceding on transitions. We also ask those players to do far too many tasks especially RAN, Gomes, Lemina etc…

Despite what GON and his team think and some of our fans too we haven’t played 4231 much this season but when we have we’ve actually looked a pretty good side. The problem is we’ve only really played it Brighton second half, Palace last 30 mins and at Fulham. Although we picked the same side Saturday it definitely was not the same set up as Fulham which makes it more difficult to really judge Lemina in that position as what they were asked to do against Bournemouth was batshit mental.

We’ve got quite a good record recently at Goodison so hopefully we win but i still think whatever happens we will be better off if we end the night without a manager.

Yes still not figured out why he thought playing RAN as a LCB in a three and completely negating his attacking threat was a good idea.

I guess he didn’t want to drop Rodrigo

You're a good fan that's been forced away from caring because:

1. The owners don't care about the fans,

2. The 'product' on the field is absolute garbage.

I think you're in a growing number of fans who feel the same way. I'll watch on Amazon, but it'll be the first game I've watched in about a month. I've lost interest.

It's not so much I've lost interest, just prioritising.
We're going for Ipswich and probably Man U.
It's bloody hard work atm though.

That is a much better point than mine, i don't think our defenders are necessarily bad (I think at least RAN and probably Semedo would get into most PL teams) but the way they are set up is appalling.

This is the reality.

Not many of our players are bad - in fact most of them are pretty decent - certainly miles better than our present position indicates.

This is about a manager who fails to know his best side, his best formation or how to get the best of a bunch of (international) players.

Any half decent manager would have us mid-table at absolute worst.

This is all utterly and completely on him.

We aren't a bottom 5 squad, but I think we'd struggle defensively whoever was the manager with our collection of centre halves and goalkeepers

Agree but, again, that’s on him.

No one asked him to replace a fucking shit keeper with an even fucking shittier one.

Or buy a £25m central midfielder when we already have about ten of them.

And no centre halves.

It's not, it's Hobbs and Shi. He had no more say in the signing of Andre than you or I did.
