Euro 2020

17 minutes as a sub in the entire tournament for Neves is pathetic, he's better than that

It was like a lucky dip draw from Santos for his midfield selections.
Look how stunted the likes of Bernardo Silva playing for Portugal, yes better quality around him but even still completely stifled in this side.

You're not making a fair comparison.

Wolves are never ever ever expected to win the Premier League. Not to excuse some of our performances over the last year (although people overstate how good we were in the first place, the regression isn't as pronounced as folk like to think) but we are a mid-table team. Sometimes we will finish 7th and sometimes we will finish 13th.

Portugal could have won that tournament with the players they have but the manager is a complete dud and has cost them both in 2018 and 2021, he is fucking shit.

Massively agree with this. Santos is terrible. Or at least, has always appeared so to me. It seems as if every game he makes substitutions that just don’t make sense given the context of the game. Think he’s been massively let off over time due to simply having a talented squad.
When Nuno left us and I heard all the talk about homesickness, wanting a break etc. I genuinely thought he’d be waiting it out until after this tournament and moving into the Portugal manager role - they’d certainly be better for it I think!

I take your point, but I seem to recall you slating Steve Bruce's Newcastle as absolute shit, yet Nuno still set us up to do exactly what Portugal did. In fact he did it regardless of whether we were playing a top team or an awful one. We literally spent an entire season trying to win games in the second 45 minutes. Let's not pretend otherwise.

John Hartson the latest person to use the format as excuse for Wales performance on Saturday.
6 days between the Italy game and Denmark game. Denmark had 1 less day preparation and have had to deal with a pretty traumatic situation to their most creative player.
The flight time from Rome to Amsterdam 2 hours.

So one of Belgium/Italy will go no further than the quarter finals. France/Spain in the same boat (if they can get past Switzerland/Croatia). So you'd think Italy v France semi final on one side.

*IF* England can get past Germany (I don't think we will), we will never get a better chance of winning a tournament. My guess is it would be Sweden (QF) & then Denmark (SF) - both of them are beatable (but also the kind of country that would turn us over on any given day).

I wouldn't really fancy us against either of France or Italy, but in a one off shoot out - who knows?

We also have the "Wembley" home advantage thing. Given the potential route to the final, I'll be fairly gutted if we go out tomorrow.

UEFA as a riposte should take the tournament back to 16 teams then next time they won't have to worry about it as they won't actually qualify.

There's nothing to be concerned about with Germany, they are not a very good team and they have a lame duck manager who should have gone years ago.

Just to note look at the distances everyone had to travel in Brazil and Russia.
Look at the Swiss their schedule Baku-Rome-Baku-Bucharest. Wales played their first two games in Baku so could set up base.

Well, they have the Jogi Löw factor :D

They're a bit of a mess all told.

We're actually going to win the tournament. It's almost inevitable IMO. We'll win it with no player scoring more than 3 goals, and scoring no more than 5 between now and lifting the trophy

Bit early to be drinking isn't it?

I swear every tournament there is a “what if” moment where we never have a better chance to win. Often missing easy routes to the final by not winning the group, getting players sent off or losing penalty shoot outs.

This is one of the more blatant ones though I guess with Germany being rubbish, and every other good team being on the other side of the draw.

I find it bizarre everyone saying we need to match them up with a 5. You should only really be thinking about doing that if you are the massively weaker team. Let them worry about us. Pin the wingbacks back with our forwards and have their forwards have to look after our FBs

Just like Greece in 2004.

We won't play on the front foot like that though, I don't think. Maybe for the first twenty minutes like we have tended to under Southgate, but not for the whole game.

I think he will go with a back five because he may fear the threat of Gosens. I agree with you on how we should counter that, just don't think that will happen. Hope I am wrong!

what we absolutely don't need is wing backs and the double pivot. If he does play 3 at the back then hopefully it's Mount alongside Rice, I expect Henderson though

Please no to a back five. As Tony says he'll also play with the two holding midfielders so it turns into a defensive seven.

We've looked solid enough with a four so stick to it please.
