Coronavirus

I'm still struggling with running 4 months after having had Covid. I'm out of breath so much more quickly and easily than I was before having it and I'm running at least 30 seconds per kilometre slower. I would regularly have done 10-20k training runs, I've not done more than 8k since.
That does really worry me, I've grown to love my long runs - have had loads of IT band problems which has been bad enough, thought of just not being able to run really worries me. My sister's bf is similar to you - he's ex pathfinders too and always has been really active.

Won't be because free testing ends next month, and people just aren't going to pay for kits when they merely feel a bit grotty.
The virus will be with us forever in some form. As you say testing will decline, partly because of the cost but also people will just realise they have to get on with their lives and treat it like every other virus that we've been living with for years.

Aye, of course. But I'm just saying people won't get a positive LFT and hide away for a bit because no-one will bother testing unless they have to, so in the vast majority of cases they won't even know they've got it.

I do have a mini-fort of LFT packs, ordered mainly to placate Mrs DW as her Dad is getting on and has a few health conditions. I might start using them to play out visually how 4-2-3-1 could and should work for us.

Oh I agree, we're on the same page.
My missus has to test every other day (bosses orders) she just spent half hour trying to get some before you have to start paying for them.
If her boss wants her to carry on testing, then she's gunna have to stump up the cash, we're not paying.
For me, I'll test if I get symptoms and if positive, I'll lock myself away for a few days. I guess if you have symptoms of any virus, you should probably avoid contact but no-ones ever done that
As I said, don't think we're far away from the majority of people just going back to the behaviour they had pre covid which is the sensible option imo

I know that on a personal level, if I've got any kind of heavy cold/respiratory issue from now I'll be staying at home rather than "soldiering on". Already heard anecdotal stuff from mates in office jobs though where mooks are coming in with a cough and saying "don't worry, it's not Covid". Sake. What have you learned.

That’s the key and important thing - we all did it in the past, but it needs to stop for the health of all of us.

I do agree, this is where i am at now to be honest.

Obviously i am not going to willingly smear my snot on handrails, and if i did still work in an office rather than from home if i had Covid i wouldn't go in, in the same way as i wouldn't if i has the flu. But overall, life has to go on.

There is surely more chance of doing someone harm when driving to that race on Sunday, than by running it whilst having covid? Especially if asymptomatic.

It used to piss me off 15 years ago. Get me with my hipster theories on public health.

Even though WFH wasn't really a thing then, take the day off FFS. You know what happens when you go blasting your germs everywhere. You're not a "trooper", you're a twat.

Mrs Trips does this all the time and it winds me up. Will refuse to ever take a sick day, even when really ill. You may think you're OK, but stop spreading whatever virus you have about

SSP in this country is beyond disgraceful. I've had to take holiday before when recovering from surgery because 90 quid a week ain't gonna cut it.

Is sick time different from regular PTO over there, then?

Over here there's no mandatory minimum AFAIK so most places give a big chunk of PTO days and say "take them for whatever reason, including sick days". So for example, I get 20 (not the norm over here, norm is lower) days of PTO each year and would use them for anything short of bereavement.

Yeah its different, though often people use holiday time as sick pay as Billy above.

I work for a us software company and get unlimited holiday 🤷‍♂️

US workplace practices are appalling tbf. Sadly our current lot of idiots want to take us more in that direction.

Doesn't everyone over here get paid sick leave? I get full pay for up to 12 weeks, then half pay.

I never get properly ill, I actually felt less “ill” with covid than I would with one of the several ‘colds’ I get a year.

I’m self employed so get no sick pay or whatever and have no ability to work from home. But if I was to not go into work everytime I had the slightest sign of an URTI then I’d probably only work around 50% of the year which obviously would be a total no deal. I’d never say that I ever “soldier on” either though. So where we drawing the line on what is and isn’t socially acceptable to still attend work?
