Climate Change Debate

EU Commission would like gas consumption to fall by 15%. This figure may be binding if there is an 'emergency' ie if Putin switched off the supply. As an aside saving the planet by consuming less fossil fuels or stopping cows farting and belching may save the planet but solar and wind won't provide a fix. Bit of a dilemma ....

Surely no-one has any doubts climate change is a thing? Obviously some will debate how much humans have had an effect (loonies obviously) but the evidence is there for global warming.

On the fence. But I have no doubt the damage people can do the planet and that the use of fossil fuels cannot go on forever - as a planet we consume too much and do not recycle enough. I think there needs be action and a plan but I do not see a short term catastophe. The effects of climate change policies worry me but the science is intriguing, especially in respect of weather modification etc.

A lot of the stuff the West is doing is just tinkering like getting rid of the ICE etc. Until the likes of Russia, USA, China, Australia, India, Brazil get on board wim fucked, I'm not holding my breath.
 
China has the biggest renewable generation capacity in the world

We are on rather shaky ground if we are looking at carbon output to the environment on a country by country basis. Of course they could do more - but China is already doing way more than most countries.

Thats an interesting graph, theres alot of conflicting information about the % the EU gets from renewables. The EEA has a 30% target for 2030, that graph would indicate that we have already passed that in 2020 when it was reporting the share at 22%.

China is pushing renewables and other forms of energy, they aren't stupid and removing reliance on their domestic coal and foreign sources (which for differing reasons are not good for them as a country) they are pushing forward in a big way with renewables, the scale of their economy means they can't just flip over night

Speaking to a Client who are a government body responsible for providing energy about future power sources, they see Gas as being the difficult one to kick, at the moment its expensive but they expect this to drop in a few years. Nuclear will come into play more and is the current answer. The dream is Hydrogen but its an expensive (in energy terms) source to extract but maybe using Fusion to extract the Hydrogen would reduce the Carbon impact.

Its really exciting seeing how we are looking at turning stuff around, and with it the challenges that brings. The above is just some peoples opinions, although better placed than me to make judgement on things like this.

Wasn't trying to pick on any one country but the ones I mentioned do produce a lot of CO2 etc.
It appears China are trying to do something about it but they are such a major industrial nation it will be years before they become carbon neutral, if ever.
I've got no answers really, I'm afraid I just doubt the will of any country to do enough, quickly enough.

Nuclear energy production is an interesting one, when I was a kid, it was seen as the great evil which would eventually kill us all off. Recently it appears to being pushed as an energy saviour. I'm not sure the nuclear industry has come up with a future plan to dispose of the radioactive waste yet, we can only bury it or store it in concrete in sheds at Windscale for so long.
