Chorley v Wolves build-up and match thread

I don't know enough of the youth teamers but I would go

Ruddy
Hoever "a CB" Coady Kilman "a lb/LWB"
Saiss & O.O in midfield
Front 3 that includes Cutrone from the start but not fussed who the other two are.

Sticking Saiss in midfield as a way of getting a bigger body in there and someone to help deal with set pieces etc. Could go him and Neves just for the Champ vibe.

The more the days tick on by the more i have a bad feeling about this game. Chorley on a cold day, shit pitch and 1 win in 9 games for us. It's an absolute lose/lose situation for us. Every other clubs supporters will be willing us to fail, and if we do god help us. Win and no one will bat an eye. I don't even think the players will get what this game could mean in the scheme of things.

Ruddy
Hoever - Coady - Kilman - RAN
Dendoncker - Neves - Otasowie
MGW
Cutrone - Silva

Strong enough side to get the job done, gives Adama, Neto, Saiss, Moutinho, Boly a rest while getting some minutes for Hoever, Otasowie, MGW and Cutrone. Get the game won and then make use of the 5 subs
Pretty close to what I'd go for. I'd be tempted to have Vitinha in for Neves tbh.

I'd forgotten about Vitinha when I posted it, would probably have him in instead of MGW.

I'd kinda like to see the 2 of them in your formation. Whichever one is forward can be covered by the other. Or there could be the opportunity for a bit of playing it through the middle.
Dendoncker can sit.

Whoever is playing a lower league side every fan is wishing them to lose, we're British. it's the plucky underdog thing

knackers to that, I'd rather the better team go through and we get to watch decent football. I've had my fill of watching cloggers tramping around shitty pitches.

Nah get through the tie I really don’t want reminding of a second Chorley defeat for years to come.

The best thing we can do this week is win a football match and win it well.

The last thing we need to do is throw our young players under the bus and expect them to go away to a non-league team and win.

Just win the game and move on, really don’t fancy being part of fa cup history for the wrong reasons or having to endure highlights of this game for years to come if we lose.
I think every year when the fa cup starts we see Ronnie Radfords goal v Newcastle.

It should be nigh on impossible to put a team out that could lose to Chorley as long as it's from fringe first team squad players, but imo the more youngsters you put out there that slight chance increases. I've watched a fair amount of football at that level, ball and man challenges which would be a yellow every day in the PL aren't given as fouls. Obviously the ref won't be from NL and may punish them, but physically I'd worry with a team of kids

I'd agree with not throwing youngster to what is likely to be physical game on a muddy, bumpy pitch with the exception of Luke Matheson. He will have gained experience of playing physical sides on muddy pitches at Rochdale.

I was a bit tongue in cheek with my selection, but I do think we need to play as many of the youngsters as possible - partly to protect our players which are needed in the PL, but also if we don't play them then how can we be sure they are ready when we need to play them.

Too be fair I'd say the players are fit enough for the schedule we have up coming - it isn't too heavy.

I understand your point about protecting the players but equally you could rest Adama (or whoever else) for this game and then he could twist his ankle in the warm up at Stamford Bridge and be out for a month - there is no rhyme or reason to the injuries.

roger johnson doesn't like this.

Chorley destroyed the young Derby players in the last round. Real “get stuck in“ stuff and we shouldn’t be putting out a team of kids for that to happen to them.
strong team, win the game and move onto the next round

Chorley's game plan will be to bombard our box on set plays so lucklily we have been ace at dealing with that recently so should have no problems...

Changes, if any will be minor so we will go strong and hopefully have enough to be able to pop 5 youngsters on for the final 20 mins or so.

Difference on Friday is it’s tier 6 players putting balls in the box not PL players. Having said that if it’s 0-0 with 5 to go and they’ve got a free kick or corner I’ll be very nervous.

Ruddy, Hoever, Boly, Kilman, RAN, Otasowie, Moutinho, MGW, Vitinha, Shabani, Cutrone
